A YJ with an LS on Coilovers & Spidertrax Axles

Ordered some really cool dome light mounts for the future cage build. 1.75 inch mounts and covers 80% of the tube.

The 6061 aluminum mount utilizes a hidden pinch bolt and accomodates two KC Cyclone LED’s.

A few parts to stretch the rear arrived today from Motobilt. A rear weld on bumper with recovery points and leaf spring shackle hangers, frame tie ins, and rear shackles.

I waited until their black Friday sale which shaved a little over $60 off of it.

The motobilt stretch “kit” will be welded to the most rear part of the frame. There is a factory crossmember there which can be removed if so desired. I will likely remove it and replace it with some DOM tube, if space allows, then have the rear kit welded on.

The kit comes with frame tie ins that are welded in place on each outside frame rails.

The kit stretches the rear a full 6 inches with XJ springs or 4 inches dependent upon the case of certain offset springs that Jeep has used under other models. I have some doubts that I will be able to run a full 6 inches of stretch while still using a under tub fuel tank, even with the stretch tank I purchased from Genright. Time will tell and I will find out during mock up, with the goal of getting the Spidertrax axle as far back as I possible can while keeping the tank under there.

A pair of Genright axle shock mounts for the Spidertrax axle also arrived today.

I have gotten several inquires about the KC Cyclones dome light mount. Here are the details.

https://cutlessdesigns.com/store.
Offered for 2”, 1.75”, and 1.5” tubes. The new ones going forward will be anodized gloss black as seen in some of the photos for a really clean finish.

As mentioned earlier in this thread they are 6061 Aluminum and accept the KC branded Cyclone lights.

Started the cleaning process yesterday on one of my GenRight stretch tanks that I never cleaned. The tank was purchased used and has a bunch of spray paint on it and adhesive from some kind of tape that's been baked on.

Using ScotchBrite, WD-40, and a some elbow grease to achieve a clean brushed finish.
The photos below were taken after about 30 mins of work. I have some of work ahead of me tomorrow.

Can you give a rating of the cyclones and their brightness in the cab? I would like some useful extra light, but not insanely bright that makes them uncomfortable to use. Also, the main hoop on the stock YJ roller seems to be about 3" thick. For obvious reasons, that's the only place I'd really want one of these...do you know of any options to mount to a bigger than 2" tube?

The diffused lens version helps with the sheer brightness. Spreads the light out a little bit in comparison to the clear lens option.

For factory rollbar fitment you have a few options, my first suggestion is the factory or factory clone version of the late model TJ speaker pods. They contain dome lights, speakers, and mount to the factory roll bars. I plan on buying some of these for the YJ in the future.

Another option is the Baja Design dome light. I dont have any first hand expeierence with it, it looks pretty bright and doesn't appear to have a diffused lens.

The build plans have completely changed direction. Leaf springs are no longer being considered for this build.

In an effort to get the most wheelbase I can for a tire in the 38-40” range, I won’t be able to get the wheelbase where I want with leafs.

Going with 2.0 or 2.5 coilovers and links, I can put the wheelbase exactly where I want it with respects to packaging it all to work together.

I did interior lighting on mine with a cheap light from Wamart mounted on the front of my Tuffy console.
Additionally added some after-market through hole LEDs to illuminate behind the seats, works awesome.

Wish I could go where Plugs is headed, but I'm already headed down the rabbit hole with a failed D35.
The D489 arrives tomorrow and now I have to build the D30 to match.
KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) WAS my plan, apparently she had other plans. (They always do)

Would love to have a 44 in front, but Toooo much $$$ and I just don't need it.
Wheeled a Spicer 25 for 10 years and didn't start breaking it until the four speed went in.
7:1 first gear was an indiscriminate destroyer, but it never broke a ring and pinion.
