Heater / vent cable confusion

I’m refreshing the heater and can’t figure out how the two vent cables attach to the control levers.

The FSM says the right cable controls the left one, but there are no pictures and I don’t see how that happens.

I have the cable that goes to the left vent door, with a functioning length adjuster. Then there’s a separate cable that goes to the right vent door. Then there are two more cables (floor/defrost & blend door). But there seem to be only three attachment sites on the control panel.

What am I missing?

The cable that controls the left vent stops behind the glove box and then the right cable hooks on there and runs down to the right vent. So it’s 2 cables pieced together to function as one. That connection is right at the area where the vacuum motor for the heater intake flap is.

The length adjustment controls how much both fresh air vents open.

I was wondering if there were updates on this. I am probing in the same are in my 95 and the fresh air vent seems stuck in the open position, which is cable issue. But I am also having trouble with the blower and the heat itself. What I have done--heater resistor replacement, flush the heater core, new hoses, new thermostat, new thermostat housing (it broke), new coolant temp sensor. I have checked fuses, but it has been a while. I am looking at that picture above and thinking that fan connector might have issues on my rig. Help appreciated.

Which fresh air vent is stuck open? There is one on the driver side that lets air in above the steering column, and there is also the big obvious one on the passenger side. I’m guessing that one is the troublesome one?

If the blower isn’t turning on properly, it probably has something to do with the switch mounted to the control panel and the Rube Goldberg machine that operates the switch. For me, the arm on the switch was bent out of shape and the control panel no longer let go of the switch so it would turn on. Don’t know how that happened but bending the arm some in the correct direction made it work again.

I am laughing at the Rube comment, but the vent open is the one on the passenger side...your guess right. Seeing the picture above made me think about replacing that switch on the left of that mini panel.

I forgot there was a photo in this thread of the panel. Yes, the one on the left is the one I’m referring to. Probably don’t need to replace it, but that is pretty easy to figure out. Unscrew the switch and operate it by hand with the key on. Should tell you if the switch works or not. Most likely anyways. Worst case do a continuity test on the switch. Pretty sure the switch is normally closed. Panel holds the arm to the switch for off, lets go of it for on.

Which of the controls still work and which ones don’t?
