1994 Hunter Green SE “Back to Stock” Thread

Wrapped up the t-case and got it filled tonight. Driveshaft back in, skid plate back on. Seems to not be leaking anymore, so I think I nailed that. I think that officially does it for work underneath. I’ll need to do the final brake bleed once it’s time to hit the road, otherwise I think I’m...

Lots of random crap accomplished lately: Fuel tank fixed and finally installed (had to remove and reinstall yet again - forgot the little push-on metal clip for the sock to hold it onto the pump) New cat/muffler/tailpipe installed - pipe is super close to tub but I think I have enough...

    Crankshaft problem

Just FYI, the one you’re looking for is the big one front and center in this pic below. It is main bearing #2 in the 2.5L, so should be the second one from the front.

    Crankshaft problem

To replace just the thrust bearing, I don’t think so. I’m not sure if you can just buy a new bearing like that though, there are specific measurements the bearings are sized to to fit your block and crank and maintain proper oil clearance. Less likely, but also possible, is that the crank...

    Crankshaft problem

I’d probably pull the oil pan and examine the thrust bearing. Thrust bearing locates the crank relative to the block. For the harmonic balancer to be out of line with the other pulleys, that’s some pretty significant crank walk. Maybe the thrust bearing broke. Hard to say without pulling the pan...

Is this an injector or a computer problem?

Not sure if you’re aware, but all of the injectors receive an ignition power source from the ASD. Have you confirmed those two inner injectors are receiving power? The computer pulses their ground to operate the fuel spray, so if the new computer didn’t fix it, you probably have a power problem.

What gears for 2.5 and 33’s

5.13 for 33's with 5 speed. Even that barely gets you back to stock levels of performance.

    Better gearing for the 2.5?

I would highly suggest scrapping this idea and possibly recommend going the opposite direction with smaller tires and higher (stock) rpm. Taller gearing/lower rpm often does not equate to better fuel mileage. Fuel mileage is tied directly to load, which is how much throttle you need to overcome...

    Instrument circuit cluster shorted out

So the starter won’t crank at all? It’s almost a 99% chance you’re not totally screwed. Probably popped a fuse that shares with the starter relay.

    Front bumper cover "support"

Can’t say how important it is, though I imagine jeep used it for a reason. When I did my body lift long ago, I ended up cutting out a portion of it so that I could keep it. The grille mount was interfering due to the raised grille height. I’m back to stock height now but I still have it. I...

Supports the front right hard brake line.

Odd. Looking at the parts manuals, black as a dash option is really only ever found in the early models, like 87-90. I only ever see spice and agate for 91-95ish and the parts manual tends to agree with that. Wonder how you ended up with black. As for the grays, they had a light gray in the...

    Clutch problems

Hard to say but looks like a wiring harness bracket attached to the loom.

    Clutch problems

The 93 or older that you have based on the internal throwout bearing shown in the second pic, means that no, you do not have a fork. That throwout bearing in your pic extends out on it's own under hydraulic pressure. It's really called an internal slave cylinder which means when the hydraulic...

1994 Hunter Green SE “Back to Stock” Thread

If either of you two decide to go through with it, I’d love to see the results. Although I think you both have spice dashes? Mine is the 92-95 darker gray. Turns out my wheel from eBay is the earlier model, or if it’s 92-95 it’s a very light shade of it. It has the horn button without the little...

Oh nice, that's right in the town where I work. If you end up doing that, it would be good to hear how it went and holds up long term. Hopefully mine holds up a while but would be good to have a backup plan.

I bought it off of eBay. I think it’s just an old stock one in really good shape. If I recall, it was one of the nicest on eBay….didn’t see any others that seemed as good of shape. So it might be difficult to find a good one. An upholstery shop might be a better idea.

Which is the transmission fill plug?

Yeah, really not that bad of a job from watching the YT vids. I had no vibes because the u-joints were perfectly fine, just the bearing was making chirping cricket noises anytime the vehicle was moving. I partially wonder if the high driveline speeds with my 5.29 gears contributed, but other...

Which is the transmission fill plug?

I only have the Tacoma and YJ, most YJs don’t go to shops it seems but Tacomas sure do, especially dealers. It is definitely disappointing to see the crap that happens to others. What’s even worse is many of the owners refuse to take that bad experience and learn themselves - they’ll still go...
