'92 Wrangler with 2001 Cherokee 4.0. Not sure if the tranny is original, probably not with this rig, although it is a 3 speed automatic. I tested my Crankcase Position Sensor and got inconsistent readings, so I decided to replace it since it's easy and pretty cheap. HOWEVER, once I got it out and looked it up from several vendors online, mine is different than any I can find. I did find some "images" of the same set up, but cannot find the actual CPS anywhere. Notice the sensor is the single mount tab and cylindrical in shape. Also, the connector end is round. Any ideas where I can find one that will match my rig?

Going to correct you so your searches will yield better results, not to be a dick, I promise. Crankshaft position sensor.

That said, nothing is out of the ordinary here. The single bolt tab is used on automatics. 2-bolt is for manuals. Round connector is used on 1991-1992. A flat inline connector was used on 93+.

A search for a crankshaft position sensor for a 1992 auto yields exactly what’s in your hand:

Unless you’re saying you ordered one with that image and got something different?

Unrelated, but as far as the motor goes since I’m curious: do you know what they did for the temp sensor? The cylinder head is where the coolant temp for the gauge is picked up. The computer gets its coolant temp from the sensor in the t-stat housing.

96 and later 4.0L got rid of the tapped cylinder head spot for the gauge readout so I’m curious if they drilled and tapped or if they added something to the t-stat housing. Or left it alone. Other than that, physically the motors are basically identical fitment. Internally they are a bit different. I’m guessing they’re still using the YJ computer to run it and it runs decently?

Ha! I'm pretty sure the part name was only a typo on this forum, but I never trust myself, did more searches this morning. Got the same results, however the pic you attached showed a part number, so I searched that and found a couple! Anyway, I ordered it through Rock Auto and you're my hero for the day!

Regarding the '01 temp gauge sensor, I went the first year after the swap without a temp gauge and with the sensor dangling from the firewall. Then I stumbled across a Jeep forum discussion where a guy mentioned the issue and found a t-stat housing fix. Hurley Engine Service in Alabama makes a high flow t-stat housing with a second sensor port drilled specifically for the temp. gauge sensor. The computer is still the '92. The engine swap was in 2021 and it's ran fine for the most part. Basically, the swap consisted only of the block and head, so nothing really changed electronically.

Good deal. Hope it works well.

If you can find the connector, you could swap to the 93+ sensor. You could also go to the 97+ sensor if you got a TJ connector. But that part you got should be good immediately.

Makes sense on the engine. I have seen Hurley’s fancy thermostat housings. I feel like they may have stopped making them though, or I feel like somebody said that. Maybe not, I haven’t looked at them in a while. Good to know the NVH engine runs on YJ programming fine.
