Rough idle made worse when lights are on

Hi all, there is a 10 Yr old thread on this but I thought I'd start it again. My 1989 2.5l idle fluctuates between 800 and about 600 and sometimes when I take her out she does that at red lights and even stalled on me yesterday. It's noticeably worse when I turn my headlights on. Is that...

    Tyre Pressure Query

Hi all, I'm running BFG LT215 75 R15 K02's on my early 1989 YJ. It's a Sahara and I don't off road it. It's got these tyres on as it's a Jurassic Jeep Replica. I just run about on the roads to events and stuff. What should my tyre pressures be? My jeep weighs about 3085lbs with me in it and all...

    Headlight Upgrade

Hi, yeah the EU spec 1989 YJ has smaller headlights and we have the front fender mounted sidelight/signal combo. EU road laws stiplulation. Luckily a guy in the UK has sent me the complete howto guide on installing the compatible cherokee headlights with internal side light and how to delete...

    Headlight Upgrade

Hi I've been told I can delete my front EU side and indicator lights from the front wheel arches but need to replace the headlights with ones from a cherokee as well as the surrounding bezels and the buy the two signal lights to replace my fake ones for the front grille? Anyone done this and was...

    Air filter housing spare inlet?

Never got back to you! You were right, it was hooked up to the exhaust manifold and it did make a difference to the start up times. There is another open hole on the connector to the front grill that points back into the engine bay. No clue what that's for though haha. More Tubes than Fee Waybill.

    Corroded Tube (Fuel Related?)

Well, I spoke too soon. The backfire on deceleration is back with a vengeance. I changed the Idle Speed Sensor and the MAP sensor and reset the ECU overnight as the Jeep was idling really high, up in the 1500 mark even when warm. Now it runs super low on idle - about 700 - and lower on...

    Idle Control Query

Hi from the UK, Really dumb question but I removed the device in red as I thought it might be the culprit of my high idle - 1400rpm even when warmed up, sits there all the time- stripped it down and cleaned a lot of crud out of the gear mechanism and gently cleaned the little motor which was a...

    Idle Air Control Valve

Thats really helpful. I tried taking mine off and one of the screws sheared off and some is left in the TB. I will follow your lead above and try that method to release the busted screw. Did you have to just pry the TBS off and then get the screw out? I'm having annoying high idle issues and...

    Air hoses

OK, I just figured out the part name and number for the red tube and it turns out I'm not alone in having a nightmare sourcing a replacement. Super rare apparently even in the US. Will try to make one from rubber tubing and maybe the same as the lower heater? Tube as well. Wow, these old Jeeps...

    Air hoses

OK, I give up haha. What are the names or part numbers for the red and blue tubes in the picture? The bottom one goes into a hole in the bottom of the engine but mine is not a perfect fit so leaks a bit around the hole. I think it should be rubber and mine us ribbed alloy? Also i think the one...

    Valve cover question

My mistake, I got it from Neverenoughauto not DeadJeep, they didn't have one in the end. This looks like an aluminium one but it may well be plastic. What problems did you have Woozy?

    Valve cover question

Oh blimey, I'll check but yes I think it was plastic as that's all I could find. They seem to be super rare even in the statesp

    CPS grommet falls in

Hi, I would whip the valve cover off and fish that out. From experience it's large enough to snag on a push rod or get caught by a rocker and I don't think you want that. They are made of pretty strong rubber so may be resilient enough to create some trouble before breaking down/ dissolving. I'm...
