    Gas tank skid plate replacement

That sounds about right for a 2 to 3 hour job. They have to pay for their tools, overhead, and something left over to put food on the table.

    Michigan Detroit area mechanic suggestions

Before you dive into any major projects, ask here first for advice. There's a lot of "Need to know" items when making changes, especially to the suspension and lifting the YJ. This can run into the $1000's when done right, and while it may look cool, you may not like the ride when getting...

    Gas tank skid plate replacement

Six little screws hold the pump onto the top of the tank. If you change the pump, it's a good idea to use a new rubber gasket too. Not all pumps come with a new gasket. You can see the two small white check valves on either side. They tend to leak from their gaskets going bad. The tank has...

    Gas tank skid plate replacement

I just replaced my original fuel pump in my '92 YJ. It was loud and the gas gauge sending unit and check valve didn't work. I replaced it with a recommended one from Amazon and we'll see how long it lasts. Good pressure and nearly silent and my gas gauge works again. We shall see. I also...

    Gas tank skid plate replacement

All your fears are about to come true. The skid pan holds up the tank, four bolts in the back and three in the front. There's also two straps which hold the tank to the skid pan. I highly recommend getting the tank as close to empty as possible, 6 lbs. per gallon add up. I attached a 6ft...

    Headlight oddity

I had the headlight relay harness in my Amazon wishlist for a few years but ended up switching to LED headlights. I figure the amp draw is around 50% less now.

Need a new clutch and help identifying transmission

I bought the LUK clutch for my AX-5 and it's worked well for several years now, just as expeted. Lots of 5 star reviews.

Intermittent Wiper Module Replaced / Jeep Will Not Start

Might seem like a silly question but us the battery good? Do you get any dash lights when turning the key on? Do the headlights come on? I had a battery go bad, without any warning, where the headlights were bright but as soon as I turned the key everything shut off. Also, the actual...

    Weber 32/36 Rough Idle

Have you tried a cylinder compression test? I'm thinking at low idle with the throttle closed you may have one cylinder that will read low read low. I don't know anything about Weber carbs or their adjustments.

    Parking Brake Query

Those cables stretch a lot, especially after +30 years of use. What you see looks normal to me after changing only one cable. It's typical for that equalizer connector to be angled like that.

    2.5 Misfire / Hesitation

Fifth gear seems to have a problem on the AX-5 with a retaining clip coming off and the gear assembly sliding off the shaft. There are customized kits available to keep them in place. Fuel, Fire, and Air. Covers about everything. Could be spark plugs, wires, vacuum leak, check the mass...

    Broken dipstick before and after

Could very well be the crack hitting. I thought it was close to both and measured down near the cam. I never took the pan off to see were it was hitting but when I straightened the tube out it stopped ticking. Here's mine on a stand prior to the rebuild. The previous owner spun a few...

    Broken dipstick before and after

Yes, but the cam shaft. That happened to me after rebuilding the engine and the dip stick tube got slightly bent, causing the tube to hit a cam lobe. I could barely hear a tick, tick, sound and thought it was a lifter at first. I used a stethoscope and found the sound was coming from the dip...

    4.2 constant tapping

Hopefully the exhaust manifold isn't cracked. You can check to see if the gasket was blown out but since the tolerance is so close, I doubt two gaskets will help. One gasket should do it. My 2.4L doesn't even have an exhaust gasket from the factory, just steel against steel. As a friendly...

Upgrading the throttle body on 1997 2.5 YJ

Following. This is the first I've come across this modification and it's not outrageously priced.

45 mph top speed after rebuild carb

Do you have a fuel pressure test kit? The fuel pressure should be between 3.5 to 5 psi. Any more and it will flood the carb and run like you describe. If you don't have a pressure test kit, you can probably find a free loaner from an auto parts store like AutoZone.

    YJ Heating System Explained

I'll add these three pictures of what's going on behind the scene with the sliding lever controller. The cable on the left popped off the post when I was installing the fan box last week so the vent control wasn't working. No adjustments on this end. Just a rotating plate that pull/pushes the...

    Best Fuel Injectors?

Bumping an old thread. I'm considering buy the brand Standard Motor Products FJ714 at $47 each. Sold at Rock Auto and Amazon and other places, they get 5 star reviews from everyone. I looked into the company website and see they manufacture the injectors to match OE injectors for spray...

94 Jeep YJ Check Engine Light Issues

I found a vacuum leak or O2 sensor can light the CEL but not show any codes. I read that you did replace both items but I would still check them. Check the vacuum lines and connections by spraying them lightly with carb cleaner and see if there's an RPM change. Aftermarket O2 sensors can...
