My brake switch on my 95 keeps dislocating from the mount leading to the brake lights remaining on.

I've already changed the switch with a new one so it's not that. Has anyone come up with a creative way to keep it in place?
 
Has anyone figured out a way to prevent the switch from coming out of place?

The weak plastic threads don't seem to enough to hold it in place. I tried a second new switch and it still does it.
 
Wish I could offer more suggestions, but since it's just that resistance fit with the clip corrugations into the brake pedal bracket hole, I can't really think of what else the solution would be. If it comes down to the hole somehow being worn out, I would think the easiest solution would be a replacement pedal bracket.

Was the first switch original, and what brand was the second switch? Wonder if some of the aftermarket just doesn't fit as well and maybe aftermarket is what you started with.

@Plastic Fury just replaced his, maybe he has some input.
 
dont remove steering column, take a picture with your cell phone camera and list it on forum, so one can tell what the damage is and how to correct.
 
I can't imagine the switch could wallow out the pedal. The pedal is steel vs. the plastic threaded switch. I just replaced mine as the original was starting to have issues with the rear lights not lighting correctly when the pedal was pushed. Installing the new one was just pushed in and then set in place by pushing the pedal to set the proper location. I supposed if I had an issue, I might wrap the "threads" of the switch with maybe a little teflon tape or electrical tape to make it a tad tighter?

If you look underneath, you can get a pretty clear shot of where the switch is installed, as dieselearl suggested, try to get a photo of the pedal mount there and maybe we might see an issue?
 
I was also thinking about wrapping it with electric tape on the back side.

Getting a pic is going to be interesting. It's at such a weird spot, but ill try.
 
This has been the hardest thing to remove from a YJ. This retainer is the culprit. I squeezed the tiny ears then put the switch back in place.

Didn't work! Brake lights remained on. Yes I understand the ribs on the switch being bent dont help. This is the second switch though. The retainer issue will continue to ruin any switch I put in.

I cant find this retainer anywhere online. Has anyone ever seen it available for purchase?

there is one on e-bay. auto zone tell me they have them also/ part # 13808, good luck
 
i was auto zone for another parts, and that part number i gave you go to a chev/gmc, looks like it, but he said would not fit wrangler, sorry, stop at dodge/jeep shop, part has been discontinued, part # at mopar, clip 6031764, i still looking/ maybe salvage yard?

Not the answer you are looking for, but I believe that I would try to fab up a small bracket that would work. I was going to go that route, but needed to replace the brake proportioning valve. So I ended up getting a Wilwood manually adjustable valve that had a brake light switch built into it. Works great.
 
the end that has threads, can you put a large plastic nut, or some type of locking nut that would keep it in place. i check three of the yards and the clip that you need was already remove from wrangler. i got 2 other yards i am going to check on monday, will advise what i find. good luck.

no clips on the five wrangler that we checked, 91-95, the person at the yard that was checking was a good size person and i was wondering how he was going to check, he very carefully removed the top steering column cover and then removed the lower trim panel, did not have a problem getting to switch. good information . good luck
