    Steel or synthetic winch rope?

Yes I believe that it is also recommended to dry before respooling after use. Safety wise it’s great but not very convenient in my opinion.

    Steel or synthetic winch rope?

I haven’t used synthetic but it is recommended to be extended fully and hosed off if it has gotten any kind of dirt on it. Safety wise though it may be worth the extra trouble. Also winch needs to be kept covered because UV will degrade the line.

1994 Hunter Green SE “Back to Stock” Thread

Since the thread is 1/4 20, if you ever do go that route stainless acorn nuts on the top side would really dress it up. Just have to make sure that the studs aren’t too long. I know for a fact acorns come in 1/4 20 I have bought bags of 100 at Fastenall.

1994 Hunter Green SE “Back to Stock” Thread

Starting from scratch. Trans and X fer case were both out when I bought Jeep. I removed the boot when tearing the body down, and could see then that it was going to be a bear (probably) to get back over both shifters. It will be some time before I’m at that point. We will see.

1994 Hunter Green SE “Back to Stock” Thread

I have seen that Novak makes shifters for the 231, most I believe are for retro fitting into something else. But do you know if they have one just to replace the one on the YJ and if it’s easier to assemble and disassemble than the stock one?

How do I keep my hardtop from fading?

Wife got some UV protectant she found on Amazon for the bottom of the kayaks that spend the summer upside down on the dock. It definitely works, may be worth a try. I don’t know the name but she has bought it more than once and found it every time.

    Faulty Ignition System?

Wish I had taken more pictures of the wiring, especially what was inside the driver’s compartment. It had a push to start button located where the push button to open the console was at. The wire to it was tight and the console couldn’t be opened. Enough free hanging wires from under the dash...

    Brand new YJ tubs

Found something yesterday that I thought that I would pass along. I have been looking for new YJ tubs but could never find any other than the MD Juan and they had poor reviews. I have been hoping that a company that I am familiar with would start making some and they are, Real Deal Steel. They...

    '95 Sahara, 1st YJ

Macho, even with the high end molded carpets, the pro’s that I have known usually had to use a heat gun to get the results that they wanted. I was also told that they did not recommend the average diy guy try this as it is easy to melt something that you don’t want to. The new carpet in my...

    '95 Sahara, 1st YJ

Yeah I agree. The YJ has good traits, its a great platform to build off of. But in my opinion in its stock form it has room for vast improvement. A guy that wants an all stock YJ is fine if that’s what he wants, it’s his business. But mine is so far gone I see no reason not to build the Jeep...

    Faulty Ignition System?

I ripped the entire harness out of my 89 and not looking back. The computer controlled carbs were a half assed stop gap meassure to appease the EPA that should never have been done. I can remember the feasco in the 80’s with auto dealerships pulling their hair out trying to get them to work...

Who is the best at tightening valve cover bolts? Not.

If you can’t get it with vise grips it’s not the end of the world, that method almost never works for me. I usually have to resort to drill and extractor, your mileage may very. I would chase all the threads with a tap before reinstalling incase you didn’t do that last time. Also I have never...

Who is the best at tightening valve cover bolts? Not.

I would try drilling it with a reverse rotation drill bit. A lot of times the bolt will come out while drilling. If it doesn’t, it will be drilled for use with an extractor anyway. Amazon and Harbor Freight have reverse drill and extractor sets.
