    Tire pressure

I run 15-20lbs on my 31s 10lbs in the dunes. I’ve never lost a bead.I put on a Tough Country 2.5” lift 20+ years ago on my 89 and am very happy with it. The front track bar went in the rafters after the lift. I’ve towed it before and after the lift and saw no difference. The Tough Country...

    What type of welder?

I have a Hobart 140 and a 230. I started with the 140 which works good for 1/4” or less. I can weld aluminum with it but need to make sure that the hose is kept straight and you will need a separate tank of Argon gas. The main down side of the 140 or any 110v welder is the limited settings...

I tried to hook up with a local Jeep club

I’ve ridden with a couple of unofficial Jeep groups. They always seem to have some guy who thinks he knows it all and is the “Trail Boss” but is just a control freak. For most it’s just a reason to drink Coors Light. Also I’ve had some who wanted to inspect my Jeep and contents to see if I was...

I thought it was just me

Too many times to count. In fact I’m wearing a pair right now. Glad they went to a different style on my TJ.

    Gnarly YJ rollover

A hard top will never fit right again. Time for a soft top. After my son rolled mine all that fits is a bikini top.

    Tires Advice

I have the same setup with 4:10 gears and I’m happy with the performance and looks of 31s. I do rub a bit at full turn.

Jeep sat in a garage for 3 years

Pour a small amount of gas or carb cleaner in the carb and try to start it. If it starts then it is a fuel issue. If my 89 sits for more than a day or 2 I need to crank it and pump the pedal for a while before it fires up. If yours sat for 2yrs I would try to siphon out as much from the tank...

    Shift indicator lens

Mines a manual but I believe his automatic indicator is on the floor next to the shift lever. Had to replace my idiot lights overlay because it flew off while being towed. Do not even think about calling a dealer for those types of parts. They usually are still laughing when they hang up on you.

    Shift indicator lens

I got the center dash bezel for my 89 from Deadjeep.com. Unfortunately those types of parts can only be found salvaged from dead jeeps so a junkyard is your best bet.

    First Jeep, ‘87 YJ value?

It looks good for a 34 yr old vehicle. I’d buy it. It needs some young blood and energy to get it back to it’s glory days. I see years of fun in it for you.

    First Jeep, ‘87 YJ value?

The only issue I see is that it has a carb and not fuel injected. At higher altitudes it’s going to loose some power and climbing steep angles can cause fuel starvation. That being said I have an 89 4.2L 5 speed and regularly go to 8K+ feet with it from my 1.5k home. Does it have doors? I’d...

    Metric vs SAE

Aren't the lug nuts right hand thread on one side and left on the other side also?

    Metric vs SAE

My 89 built in Canada has a metric oil filter. I never had an issue getting them until recently. I purchased some new Frams with the same part number as the old one and they did not fit. I finally found the correct WIx filters and stocked up on them.

    Sky Dirt

My son has rolled my YJ twice. Once side ways and the other front to back. Looks like shit but it still runs fine. Needless to say he’s not allowed to touch my TJ.

Why is there so much hate against YJ square headlight Jeeps?

My 1989 Islander cost 12 K new, 25k in 2021 dollars. I paid 7K for mine used in 91. List price for a 2021 Islander is 35k. 10K more in options I guess.

    Lock Box for the YJ

Absolutely no complaints about mine. I’ve had it for over 10 years. I have the door hinge locks also. Around here they steal half doors all the time.

    Lock Box for the YJ

I have a Tuffy glove box. I bought it mainly for the steel grab bar for the wife. I have a generic 2X6X10 box in center console for my Ruger LCP9. Lock boxes are only for thieves of opportunity, a determined thief can get into any lock.
