Are boomerang shackles a smoother ride?

I definitely noticed a difference loosening the bolts a bit and adding greasable shackle pins. Definitely. The stock bolts were so tight the components were basically bound to each other. My little jeep would beat you to death in the stock configuration. Switching springs and shocks helped...

Are boomerang shackles a smoother ride?

They only change the geometry if they are a different length.

    Door handle screw

I don't know if it's the same screw on half doors, but I just pulled one out and it's a 10-24 thread, 5/16" long

    My brakes suck

I just got off the phone with Blaine @ BMB, pads are ordered. I'll inspect the knuckle ears and repair if necessary. Thanks for the help.

    My brakes suck

I didn't even know "divots in the knuckle ears" was a thing. If they're devoted, I'm sure I can weld them back up. I will check that out, thank you! BMB brake pads, 135 bucks ...ouch. They do have excellent reviews.

    My brakes suck

There's nothing wrong with them, they're just pretty anemic. I'm sure I could lock them up if stomped on the pedal, I'm just accustomed to good brakes. These ain't good, they're barely adequate.

    Loss of power

Code 55 is "Completion of trouble code display" code 12 is "Battery Disconnect" code 33 is "A/C Clutch Relay Circuit" (you will get this code if your vehicle doesn't have AC) Have you done a compression test? Have you inspected all of your ignition components? plugs, wires, cap rotor. Have you...

    My brakes suck

Everything is new(ish) and functions properly, the brakes just suck. I'm running 31" tires right now and am going to move to 33' when I wear these out. It won't go bigger than 33's, not with the 4 banger. The brakes aren't dangerous or anything, they just kinda suck. I have Raybestos...

    Loss of power

A bad cam position sensor [should] throw a code. You stated there are no codes present. When you flash the codes, there are literally no codes? Are you at least getting code 55?

    Loss of power

**more information needed Are you showing any codes? What is your fuel pressure when the incident happens. is there a "miss or a studder" when it looses power?

    Backspacing question for 33s

I'm looking to get a set of off road dedicated 33x12.50x15 tires, and was looking at 8" wide wheels with 4" backspacing (0 offset). Assuming no body parts are in the way, will 4" backspace wheels alow me full lock turn with 33's?

Looking for suggestions on a softer ride for my 89 YJ

Loosening the shackle bolts a touch, maybe? Greasable shackle bolts might also help. How long are your shackles? What do the spring to shackle angles look? What is the air pressure in your tires? (My jeep is happiest @28psi) Does it still have track bars? Throw those things in the garbage. After...

    Recommend replacing Water pump bolts?

I thought rembered those holes going all the way I to the coolant passages? ..maybe not. If the hole doesn't go into a coolant passage, you shouldn't use thread sealant. If the threaded hole does go into a coolant passage, I highly recommend permatex thread sealant paste. Sorry for any confusion.

    Recommend replacing Water pump bolts?

I agree with this mostly, except I recommend Permatex thread sealant with ptfe instead of anti sieze for "wet bolts".

Gas Pedal Catch in 87 YJ

Carbureted? I've had that issue with the carb linkage catching on the bottom of the air cleaner (Chevys not jeeps, but it's worth a look). Go to the carb and move the linkage by hand, you should be able to pinpoint the issue. If everything moves free at the carb, I would start looking at the...

Am I ever going back to stock?

I could put my Jeep right back to 100% stock. I have saved every nut, bolt, spring washer etc. that I have taken off the Jeep (except the track bars, I literally threw them in the scrap pile ;) ). This stuff takes up a lot of space. Seats, gears, Wheels, bumpers, etc, etc. Every mod I have done...

    Air conditioner by pass pulley

What year and engine is your jeep? On my '95 w/ 2.5 the difference is just the belt length. I installed an ac pump (on board air) and just had to order a belt for a rig that has AC. That was the ONLY difference. Can you post a pic of the configuration, or at least your engine compartment?

    Regular Maintenance Schedule

Every used rig I get: Change Transmission oil, transfer case fluid and diff oil. Grease all the fittings. change the fuel filter. Flush out and change antifreeze, install a new t-stat. inspect and replace as necessary: belts, brakes, brake lines, hoses, battery cables, shocks etc. open the...
