    Exhaust geometry problems

Gonna watch how this one goes. I can’t really help but I am curious how your muffler and curved part of the tailpipe sits. I have no transfer case drop, all stock engine mounting, and my exhaust results have been pretty stupid. A full suite of Walker products has the tailpipe basically...

    '95 Sahara, 1st YJ

Yeah, I just wonder why it’s not right. Obviously it had to come from the factory set up in some way or another. Not for the wheel you run but the tire carrier is the same dimension in all years best I can tell, so it seems like it should be pretty easy to get right since that was a TJ tire and...

It’s been storming all week, so I didn’t take the Jeep out on the streets until today. I drove it to get some gas (ethanol free from Walmart), and then drove it to pick up takeout. Overall, I would describe the handling and overall driving experience as good, not great. Still a lot of little...

Backspacing is less on 15x7, it is 5.25”. However, I am not using a 15x7 spare at the moment, I’m using a 15x6 which is also 5.25”, but the tire bulge from the narrow rim is why the 1.22” bumpers are used. 30x9.5 on the 15x7 wheel is not snug enough on the 1.22” bumpers, and it is way too tight...

Very strange. The parts manuals only offer 1.22 and 1.62 in the early years, I would assume surely 1.62 is the only one even remotely close to fitting… Maybe need a set of 1.22’s? eBay will have them.

Lol, yeah, getting close. Hopefully the brakes work well after some bleeding. Once that is the case, I won’t really have any qualms about driving it. Definitely feels good to drive it again, especially while not handling like complete garbage. I had a number of things contributing to that, but...

Registration is renewed, so I can now hit the streets whenever I feel like it. That pretty much means as soon as the brakes are bled and working reliably enough.

Little bit more progress made. The guy who I bought the axles from had a lift on his YJ, something around 4" I believe. As such, the drag link was lengthened to center his steering wheel. Of course, when you go back to a stock rig with the same linkage, it's too long. Not wanting to completely...

That’s odd. I haven’t mounted mine without bumpers, so I suppose mine could do the same and I just don’t realize it, but mine is sitting pretty nicely across the 4 proper thickness snubbers (1.22” snubbers on 15x6 wheel and 225/75 spare). I would imagine it would sit straight up and down if I...

Pretty much the same opinion. It won’t hurt much to run a more aggressive tire, while helping the look and it will help performance if I do decide to wheel it at all. If I don’t go with BFG, then I’m going with Toyos. If I do the Toyos, then I’d probably do the 235/75 load C’s. The plan is...

I’ve considered it, but I really don’t like the way the stock tires look. They highlight the small appearance of stock tires, and look somewhat bald/bland. The all terrains I’m looking at aren’t too bad on noise and they look a lot better. I actually will be taking it on some trips, but...

Yeah, seems right since you have the wider wheels. I rub the right leaf with the back of the right tire at full lock. I used to hear that 30x9.5 would hit the sway bar, and so I repeated that, but that was without context. Turns out that happens when using the stock 9 slot steel wheels, which...

Wheels have arrived. I think they look fantastic. Paint quality seems good. Obviously we have yet to know how it holds up to brake dust and being washed off, but we’ll see. They’re heavier than I expected. I don’t know what I expected, it’s a steel wheel. They are about 24.5 lbs, about the...

My “new-to-me” 1990 Safari, all original

Nice Jeep, although I will say it isn’t all original. Those wheels are Ravines from a TJ. An 87-91 Sahara would have had the dark painted styled steel wheels.

Worked on my neighbor’s dodge today, which was a new brake booster and master cylinder job. Not fun, not terrible. It went well enough that after the fact, I felt motivated to bleed the brakes on the YJ, so I drove it into the neighbor’s garage and had him help just as if it was a continuation...

    Thank you, forum!

Hopefully you mean you downloaded the factory service manual. Chilton’s are useless by comparison and not worth even having on your laptop.

Weather has been poor here, with random rain, and so I haven’t made much progress with the Dana 35. It’s been torn down, and put back together partially so that the housing is sealed in order for me to clean the exterior. I don’t know when I’ll get to doing that, hopefully in the next few days...

Yeah, the wider wheels help with that on the TJ, I assume same applies to the YJ. It’s just enough to make them not rub. Shouldn’t matter on spring height, rub mainly is hitting any spring or the sway bar. With the wider wheels you must just barely be clearing, because I am already very close to...

Yeah, if I still had lift that would be my go-to size. They’ll work fine on 15x7. They actually are better mated to a 15x7 wheel. Jeep used 15x8 because it kept the same steering geometry and it allowed proper fitment to prevent rubbing with 30’s and proper fitment on the tire carrier. 15x7...
