Two more weeks until I can get plates on my new 1989 yj. Here in NY DMV is now by appointment only so.... while I’m waiting I thought I’d address the rust. It doesn’t seem to bad but I’ve never done it. Any advice on the best approach to take?

This was my first attempt at doing body work on my YJ by cutting out the old and MIG welding in an 18ga sheet metal patch. Years ago, before YouTube, I would just loaded up on Bondo and ended up with a lousy repair.

The drivers side support was also rusted through and the floor pan was cracked, pitted, and rusted thinner than a razor blade.

Hey guys I’m a noobie and have never done any rust repairs. I have a 95 Sahara 4.0 with rust and pinhole on floor pan. I have a picture and needed some advice on how to fix.

I personally would check to see how solid it is overall. If it will hold up to a few hammer strikes and not come apart I would just grind and fix the pin holes, then hit the rusty areas with rust converter then brush on some POR15. If you are unable to weld up the pin holes my old pre welding days fix was fiberglass cloth and resin.
