As I’m getting close to rebuild the front and rear differentials. I see a lot of videos on lunch box lockers. I’ll be using this jeep as a daily driver during the week. Beach driving on the weekends. It’ll have a 2.5” lift and 31” tires.
Will it be better in the sand with it?
Or is it just a hassle and waste of money lol?

Yes definitely better traction. But they are not a selectable locker, meaning that the will lock and unlock as wheel spin happens. This can be dangerous on a short wheelbase vehicle on slick roads with a rear locker. If you have one on the front make sure that the front axle disconnect is working or you will have a dangerous condition there also.

The front is fine or should be, they don't lock up when not under power from the driveshaft. Tons upon tons of TJ owners out there with no factory disconnect running lunchbox lockers and they don't have any issues.

On the rear, I'd definitely not ever choose a lunchbox.

Thank you guys for your input. I was thinking of only doing the front. My brothers 88 yj stock base model was fine on the beach. But I just want that extra insurance. Also I’m retiring this spring. I might want to try some trails in the Catskills in New York.
Thanks again!!!

I don’t know about that macho. Have known several with various lockers on the front that either ended up removing them or going to a selectable locker because of driving on snow and ice.

That's probably because they want to put it in 4WD. At that point, yes very much a problem.

For the record, I would never put a lunchbox up front for that very reason (even once a year DFW gets enough snow and ice to need 4WD for a few days). But, if someone lives in a place with no snow or ice and won't need 4x4 on the street ever (or have alternate transportation if they do), they can for sure put a lunchbox up there and will never feel any effects.

10-4 I completely agree.
