Bad solenoid possibly. The battery is at 12v dcz I tried jumping it with a charging kit jumper. Headlights are bright as usual. So I honestly have no idea
This. I've cut apart what looked like "ok" battery cables on the outside but the insulation was basically holding a tube of corrosion together. The cables would pass enough power to run accessories, turn on lights ect but when asked to carry the hundreds of amps needed to turn an engine over they weren't up to the job.Several times over the years I've found a bad cable going to the starter with the strands all corroded inside the casing.
If you have a set of jumper cables you can try and use them to bypass the others to the starter but be very careful not to short out anything.
I've got a set on my XJ and they are pretty good. Price isn't horrible for a premade set. On the YJ I took the old cables to O'Rileys and myself and one of the counter guys built a set from wires off a spool and the proper terminals and whatnot I needed. Took about 30 minutes of our time and ran me about 40 or 50 dollars.I saved this link posted here. I didn't buy the cables yet but they look like a good idea.
