Weber 38 degrees on 1987 Wrangler no start (need help identifying vacuum lines)

Howdy

1987 Jeep wrangler yj 4.2L automatic transmission weber 38dges02 carburetor mechanical fuel pump

problems: multiple. no start after previously being able to start/idle/drive (2 years ago). once rough forced start jeep does not idle. random battery drain when trying to start. strong smell of exhaust on my clothes after driving jeep when it was running

goal of post: to identify vacuum/other lines connected to weber carburetor
A. B. C. D. etc -
as well as aftermarket carburetor to test if it will start.

asking for clear recommendation of keeping weber with solution of fixing above problem(s). or replacing weber with specific setup.

i have put money into fixing (bandaiding) the problems.
ii am open to what will truly solve/fix starting/idling/running problems. short-term budget. long-term bigger budget if worth it.

The O2 sensor does not need to be used with the Weber. Line A is crank case evacuation looks like going to manifold or bottom of carburetor. Mine and most that I have seen go to a fitting in the bottom of air cleaner on a Weber equipped jeep. B I’m not sure what it is without looking at mine. C is the fuel line. D is vacuum either going to distributor vacuum advance, or from the looks of it possibly to the front axle 4wd connect disconnect. The hose coming from the rear of the valve cover appears to have a makeshift filter stuck in the end of it. I replaced this with a breather cap directly on the valve cover.

ytradio thank you for the response. this really helps cause i have been going in without clarity of the identity of all parts, including hoses & their purpose.

The PCV valve on mine is on the front and looked to me like it is on yours as I can see something shiny around the edge. That may not be correct because the pcv will fit in either end of the valve cover. The fitting on the rear of the valve cover looks like it is all black like mine was. That fitting was just a plastic elbow with nothing inside of it. It also looks like the other end of the line has a white plastic elbow with the cloth stuffed in it. That elbow probably came with your air cleaner and fits into the hole in the bottom plate. This is what draws the vapor from inside the crank case. But, the line that goes to the air cleaner should be the one with the pcv valve. Not saying that it has to be run to the air cleaner to work but should go some way to be drawn back into the engine. The typical way is through the air cleaner and the Weber air cleaners come with a plastic or brass elbow fitting threaded on one end to attach to the bottom plate of the air cleaner.

Photos of my engine. The B line is not attached, but my carb is the DGVE 32/36. You will probably have to trace it out and see where it goes. My guess is that it is either a return of some kind or a float bowl overflow. But I am just reaching for crap because I don’t know.

your jeep is so beautiful & clean & well maintained. ii am working on getting my jeep there, although love my jeep even as it looks now.

oke ii am trying to unpack what you are saying. sometimes i am a bit slow. let me get in the jeep & start labeling things & i will take another photo to upload to make sure i am on the right track.

what year is your jeep? also did you do a nutter bypass? ii like how clean your setup looks ~ with less wires & hoses.

Someone at some time probably did the Nutter. But I stripped ALL the wiring because it was butchered past all belief. Made my own harness. It has what it needs and nothing that it doesn’t.. The fuse box is from Summit and is located where the glove box was. I had no intention of changing any fuses or making any power connections that far up under the dash. Piss poor location.
