My husbands 1990 YJ needs repair. We've not had good luck, even at a dealer, because mechanics nowadays seem not to be able to repair vehicles without modules. The Jeep was driven about 4 miles the other day and by the time he got to his destination, the engine was smoking a bit. He needed to get it home an hour later and thought he could baby it there. Before I get crap about whether that was a stupid idea (it was) my husband has a brain injury and doesn't always have his executive function working it's best when making decisions. After 2 miles, it smoked so bad he gave up and pulled over, walked home because he'd forgotten his phone
, then called AAA for a tow.
The next day he checked the radiator, which was replaced with a brand new one 3 yrs ago, and it was completely empty. Somewhere in the last 2 weeks since it was last checked, it must have gotten a crack. He filled it, and when he tried to turn the engine over, there was a click and nothing else. Does a blown head gasket cause the engine to not even try to turn over?
Does anyone know of a repair shop in the Phoenix west valley or Goodyear AZ area? He's about ready to concede that it's more than he can deal with anymore, but he at least wants to see exactly what it will take to have it running again.
Thanks in advance for any input.
