My YJ won't start. I turned it off for two minutes and then it wouldn't start. I get power in the on position but when I turn the ignition it totally kills the power. I have a ham radio, two wires,(with fuses) that go directly to the battery. When I try to start the jeep the fuse for the ground wire blows. If I remove the wires from the battery the jeep has no power. If I touch the wire to the negative post I get power but if I try to start all the power shuts off. I'm stumped

I have checked all the usual suspects (battery, starter, solenoid), and narrowed it down to an electrical problem, possibly a ground.

Could be the battery cables are severely corroded inside the insulation.

I've had that happen. The headlight look bright and everything works until I would turn the key and then all would quit.

I cut open the insulation and found one thin wire in all the white powered corrosion.

I just installed the Big 7 Cable kit and it made a big difference.
