I have a leak on my passanger side axle. There was a tint bit of oil in there when i pulled the axles for u joints but after i put them back together i have a pretty decent leak coming out of the axle. I am just assuming that this would be caused by the outer seal thats by the vacuum or is this caused by the inner seal thats in the pumpkin? Also does any body know of a good tool to sit that seal thats on the outer side? Ive tried to look it up and only see the press for the seals in the pumpkin.

Yeah i filled it all the way up, everything is together, i drove it for 2 days then today i saw a small puddle on the ground and the whole back side of my hub assembly has oil on it.

What diff cover does it have? That sounds significantly worse than what happens when you fill it up to the stock fill hole ordinarily. I would assume aftermarket cover with the fill hole way too high, otherwise maybe a clogged breather.

Im pretty sure its stock, but thats the best photo i have of it right now.

That is a stock cover. Crazy you’re losing that much oil. Might need to go back in there and replace that seal.

The spec for gear oil capacity on the front axle is to fill it up to 1/2” below the fill hole and then add a few ounces at the CAD through it’s little plug.

I typically overfill at the diff, drive it a bit and then suck some back out of the diff. Some of the overfilled diff will fill up the CAD adequately.

You thinking just the outer seal?

To install my outer seal I used some 1/2” all thread and a bunch of washers. Lowe’s had washers big enough but the hole in the center was bigger than the nut so I had to buy a few more washers to step down the size of the center hole to a 1/2” and stack them. I used a pice of plywood with an 1/2” hole and a washer and nut on the outside of the axle tube and cranked the seal into place. Jeep Solid has a good video on it but he went all the way to the inner step, I stopped at the edge of the CAD housing and have no leaks. It was a bit of a session because the seal didn’t want to go straight but by moving the plywood around I was able to get it in. I spent more time looking for washers than installing the seal.
