My '95 yj just started to cut out on me as I drove it down the road. It would hesitate, jerk, as if it was dying. The RPM's did not change, no CEL came on. They tell me it may be a CPS going bad. I just replaced this CPS unit last month. I was taking out this same CPS to test it, and while trying to replace it, the grommet managed to fall into my housing. Question...... how can I get the grommet out? If I cannot, will it hurt my engine when I drive the jeep? Can I just leave it in there? Its a 2.5L, 5 speed, 173K mileage.

Hi, I would whip the valve cover off and fish that out. From experience it's large enough to snag on a push rod or get caught by a rocker and I don't think you want that. They are made of pretty strong rubber so may be resilient enough to create some trouble before breaking down/ dissolving. I'm not a pro mechanic but I would be straight in there to scoop it out.

My 2.4L 5-speed has an access plate on the lower front part of the bell housing. It can be removed by removing a couple of bolts. Those two huge bolts/nuts only hold the sheet metal plate in place. I can't recall but I think it goes around the starter.
