Did you check to see if you need that piece? Most of the time with aftermarket intakes people leave that in.
Unless I am missing it. This what I have currently. I assume it attaches to the square hole below the headlight?

Yeah....the stock design is overall better. The only downside to it is it draws in air somewhat low, but not really a problem for most. If you were doing a bunch of water crossing, then it would probably be worth changing to something else.

Well right now it gets pulled behind our RV, driven around town for fun and light off roading. Maybe in the future it may be used for more that that but ok. This has been a real education.

Wouldn’t hurt to go without if for a while would it till I make/buy one? I imagine not.

It cracks me up when people make changes like this. The Jeep engineers are not perfect, and sometimes make questionable decisions, but for an air intake they are usually semi well engineered. does someone really think their cobbled together mes of a filter is going to somehow be an improvement of anything over stock? Just not really sure what the motive was here for the PO changing to what I see in the pic. Lol.

It will continue to work just fine how you have it, I just like to be stock on things like this, as stock does the best filtering. But I wouldn't sweat it that much in the meantime.

Agreed. Banks Power told my brother that when you increase air intake, you need to increase exhaust. What comes in needs to go out. Otherwise you just pressurize your exhaust with no benefit. I like stock as well in this case. I am going to go forward with it. Ironically, I am replacing the exhaust…today in fact ( if the CAT arrives) cuz the tail pipe hanger rusted off. See pic. I decided to do the whole thing.

Well after all of that. I offered a good price but they declined. I don’t want it bad enough so I will just keep what I have.

Well like I said, I will keep what I have as it is not worth it to me to upgrade back to stock. I did however get the new exhaust (cat, muffler and tailpipe) installed today. Happy about that but one of the exhaust hangers has split after 22 miles. No excessive load and easy install. Not happy about that.
