I bought a 89 yj with the 4 cylinder. The person I bought it from stated they put a new clutch in it and could not get it to start. There is no spark. It has a new coil, cap and rotor.Could he have done something wrong to the crank position sensor while installing the clutch? I checked the CPS and the ohms are correct

what does your code say. do you have a cel showing? make sure all of the wire are pluged in tightly. i would check to see if CPS is properly installed.

I have the same engine here in the UK.

Have you checked to see if there is a spark from the coil to the dizzy cap and then from each of the four leads to the four plugs?

Is the battery fully charged to 13 volts?

Got gas? Is there gas entering the injector?

Have you checked every fuse and relay to rule out any electrical breaks preventing some of the sensors form working?

Is the throttle position sensor moving freely and not been damaged??

Did the Jeep turnover BEFORE then PO putting a new clutch?

Just some areas to consider.

Do you get anything at all or just dead??

no cel, no codes. there are just 2 bolts holding the cps in place. I just wondered if the person putting the clutch in goofed something up. the cps bolts in at the back of the engine near the flywheel so didnt know where it gets its signal from.

No spark at all, battery full charge, it has gas no gas in injector but gas is circulating to the injector, will not start because of no spark to plugs, checked every fuse and relay, the person stated that it ran before he put the new clucth in. it cranks over good and has good compression just no spark.

check 12v wire going to coil with key on. if its hot take your coil off and give it a good shake. if it rattles you need a new coil

the only light that come one when turn the key on is "emiss check" is there a different check engine light

it has always been my understanding if no CEL, the PCM is out. you need to sent CHRIS, the forum director a personal message and get his expert crew on this problem. it something real simple, you just haven hit on it yet. keep us informed.
