No matter how I let the clutch out in 1st gear I get some tire jump and a shake/vibration for a second or two. Its pronounced and terrible on incline as slight as my driveway. As I drive and shift through all the other gears it shifts fine and the clutch feels strong. Thoughts? 1990 with the 6cyl/5spd

Thanks. JP

A worn clutch will do that. Could be the clutch plate, pilot bearing, pressure plate springs, or flywheel. Usually a new clutch kit will have the first three items and you'll need to take a look at the flywheel

My bet would also be clutch, and I would lean toward damaged/broken springs in the clutch disc.
Those springs do a Lot for a smooth clutch.
Had a BMW disc with 9 springs in an old Jeep, smoothest clutch i ever had, a mean child could drive it and look pro.

How a BMW part ended up in Jeep is a long story.
