Turn the key to On several times before cranking. The fuel pump runs about 2 sec each time. If it immediately starts after this, your fuel pump check valve is letting the fuel line drain back into the tank.
Don't know anyone that's done it, but to go computer free, you'd need carb, old school HEI distributor, and coil. I wouldn't go as far back as a points distributor.
I'd suggest checking the CJ forums.
If you did go with points, you'd have the apocalypse ready YJ.
The nuts are permanently part of the Jeep. Check your fenders and floor to see if they are there.

Your key is worn out.
I was able to take my key out with it running. Pulled the spare out and worked as it should, so I had a new one made from the unused key.
The Yjs with distributors aren't really picky. You can run standard plugs, single platinum or double platinum.
What brands are available there? Factory recommendation for a YJ is going to be Champion RC12LYC standard plug.
Pull one plug wire at at a time and and narrow it down to the misfiring cyl. If it's just one cyl, you shouldn't notice much difference when you pull that wire.
Check the fuel injector connector.
Move that injector to another cyl and see if the misfire follows.

If you turn the key to on, does the check engine light come on? If you turn the key On, off, on, off, on quickly, the check engine light will blink out any codes. At a min you should get code 55, which means end.
