If it were me, looking for what you want to achieve, I would at least checkout Metalcloak front and rear fenders. The claim by them is being able to fit 35’s on a un lifted YJ with their fender system. That would keep your stock suspension and a low center of gravity.

I always have trouble welding overhead, so lifted the rear of the frame as much as I could. That was better but still set my shirt on fire and blistered my arm.

Jeez Macho that’s pretty scientific. I usually just added or subtracted air psi until it looked and felt right.

I saw a top on a TJ the other day that had a hard plastic border about 3” wide that made a door frame for the full doors to fit into. No body was around so I don’t have any more info but it looked to work well.

Hey Joe, you do things just the way I would.

You also mix in old fluid from the torque converter unless you pull and drain that too. I have never heard of anyone going to that extreme.

It should have 4.10s in it now. A cheaper and much easier approach would be to put on some taller tires. Changing the gears is going to be much more expensive, especially if you need to pay to have the work done. It is not a beginner project. Just my opinion.

Close inspection of frame and under body. These things are notorious for rust. That in my opinion is #1.
