1992 Jeep YJ 4.0 will not start

The problem is obvious, it’s too clean under that hood. Jeeps aren’t used to running clean.

    Which SYE do I need?

Looks like a 231 to me. I can see the ID tag is missing on the rear, not surprising. I would look on Novak transmission sight, they have loads of good info on the 231 and other Xfer cases. You can also give them a call for more specifics.

Finally got the new transfer case. Installed, at least temporarily, needs a little shimming.

1988 Jeep YJ AX-15 master / slave swap

You might try taking a look ay Novak transmission. They have a premium quality slave cylinder that is rebuild able and a line kit for the YJ. Also sell clutch master cylinders. They are not pre bled systems, but what I am hearing is many of the pre bled’s are poor quality. Worth a look anyway.

Harmonic balancer is not lining up with other bullies after timing chain replacement

Have you checked the bore opening that goes over the end of the crank? Is it bored as deep as the old one or is there a burr or other imperfection inside?

Clifford is the only place I personally have been able to find a header for the 258.

    Help Identifying Transmission

If you have the 4 cyl, according to Novak transmission, the ax5 is the only one of the two that will fit because of the bell housings.

    Pilot bearing

Honestly I think the puller done a pretty good job, it was the inner stainless bearing sleeve that caused all the problem. The puller would tighten up on the lip and then that sleeve would let it slide over it. Once the inner sleeve finally came out the main part pulled just fine. I will never...

    Pilot bearing

The crank on my 258 had a pilot bearing that had the needle bearings in it. The PO had told me that he couldn’t keep pilot bearings in this thing so went to this one and it didn’t last either. I have a brand new AX15 so this was coming out. I’m in the process of rebuilding the engine anyway...

    95 YJ 2.5 5-speed running rough

With it running, spray some water with a squirt bottle on the exhaust manifold right next to each cylinder. The dead one should boil off the water much slower than the others.

    Driving 50 mph

It has Jeep’s battery saving option. Great for the battery, not much for keeping time.

    Driving 50 mph

Use an Alan wrench in the center of adjustment screw and break the outer nut loose then tighten the inner Alan screw like flyer58 said. But first have someone turn the wheel back and forth while you lay underneath to verify that there is slop in the box.

Got scammed and need help to rebuild 89 Wrangler YJ base model

If going the small block Chevy route, I would go with the gm factory 210 hp 350. Used to be called Mr. Goodwrench 350. It’s got enough power and then some for a Wrangler. If using the stock axles you will be limited on how much horse power they will take. My opinion is that will probably be the...
