    93 with 4.3 and 4L60E

The possible issues are width, lug bolt pattern and available gearing. The Explorer 8.8 has the same bolt pattern and is witin .5 in of the Jeep axle for width. I don't know about the fit, but the GM rear end would almost have to be an improvement; they sure don't have a reputation for blowing...

    93 with 4.3 and 4L60E

I would definitely look into swapping your 4L60e for a 700R4 or 4L60 (no e) in that case. The "e" at the end stands for electronic and that unit won't shift without a computer. The 700R4/4L60 was the non-electronic version of that same transmission. The 700R4 does have an electric lockup...

    93 with 4.3 and 4L60E

If you google '4L60e controller' you'll find standalone, aftermarket computers for your transmission that don't need the engine's fuel injection system. They're not cheap, but I don't think the GM computer's transmission controls will work without input from the EFI management system. To get...

How difficult is it to get OE inner fender panels to fit on aftermarket tube fenders?

If you can get hold of the maintenance manager for a big plant nursery or produce processor they might have worn out lengths of conveyor belt that you could practice on. Might even have some chunks of new stuff from shortening belts and such. Anyone who uses conveyor belts might be able to...

How difficult is it to get OE inner fender panels to fit on aftermarket tube fenders?

Heh. It is on my list to pull one off and make a pattern, but at the moment I'm in the middle of becoming an expert on 30 year old GM EFI systems figuring out how get my 4.3L franken-motor in top tune. A quick measurement says a chunk of rubber 39" x 21" would be big enough to make one.

How difficult is it to get OE inner fender panels to fit on aftermarket tube fenders?

Mine came with semi truck mudflap inners. I fitted them a little better (still want to redo them, but it's low on the list). They work great.

Scratching my head on body lifts

Looks, that's all. If you're really going to wheel, you want lift in the suspension and tires; the body lift only raises your CG, which is bad. If you street your Jeep but want it to look all offroad without a bunch of hassle, that's what body lift is for. Mine came with 2" body lift, and the...

    Help with wiring harness

There's actually some reasoning there. They went with port fuel injection instead of the cheaper and easier throttle body injection that everyone else was using at the time because with a straight six it's impossible to get the runners to each cylinder the same length, and with fuel suspended...

Help with radio and lighter outlet

Get the wiring diagrams. The one you want's on page 8W-101, and there's a diagram of the fuse panel on 8W-139. The YJ used a GM fuse block, and didn't wire things exactly like Chevy did, so the labels on the fuse panel aren't always right. That's the 'red wire' circuit. It's basically the...

    Help with wiring harness

Additional: It would be good to identify the engine precisely. The 4.0 has had a lot of tweaks over the years. Found this in another place: All 4.0L have a casting number cast into them on the drivers side near the motor mount bracket. XJ engine blocks also have a build date number...

    Next winter's project

Scored a limited slip 8.8 to go under the YJ next winter. Supposedly the Explorer had under 100K. I'll probably convert it to disk brakes.

    Help with wiring harness

You've got a fuel injected engine, and I believe I can see the plastic rail for the plugs for the injectors in the background. As long as there are six injector plugs you should have either a 4.0 or 4.2 EFI harness. I have heard that there are differences between them, but haven't seen...

Rear right signal light and brake light are not working

I'd start with the connector just forward of the driver's door which feeds loom to the rear lights. Disconnect that connector, turn on the blinker and check the Brown/Red wire on the upstream side for power with a test light. If that's working, apply power to the downstream side of the...

Rear right signal light and brake light are not working

Look in the YJ Resources forum. I did a white paper on troubleshooting your turn/brake circuits. It's on the first page of the forum towards the bottom, and should be helpful. If you trace the circuit, there's a place in the turn signal switch where the stop and turn control circuits merge to...

    Tachometer issue

I've got a newer rig, and had to go look at how the 89 did things. It's a pretty simple circuit, and the White/Black wire that powers the tach also powers a bunch of other things including all the other gauges, so if they're working that's probably not the problem. The Orange/Black wire powers...

    Tachometer issue

The YJ uses T5 and T10 dash and indicator lights. Amazon has LED versions cheap in multi-packs. They work great. Here's the ones I got, but they make colored versions as well. T5 Bulbs T10 Bulbs Not sure where the early YJs got their tach signal (negative side of the coil or an ECM), but the...

Handling sucks and Jeep is all over the place when driving

Welcome aboard. Your problem could be a lot of things. Check your caster angle first. A lot of bolt-on mods to the suspension (shackle lifts, etc) aren't careful about that, and it's vital to good handling. How's the ride? A rig with leaf springs at all corners is going to be rough, but it...

    Suspension Seats

I'm starting to price out a pair of suspension seats for my yj. This is a street/light trail rig, but my wife likes to ride with me, and doesn't like getting banged around like the leafers are known to do. I'm 6'2", so I need a tall back, but I don't mind lowering the seat base if needed...

Why is there so much hate against YJ square headlight Jeeps?

It's not necessarily the YJs fault. Some of us are old enough to have been wrenching in the 80s, and we know that those square headlights are the visual representation of some of the most dismal years the American automotive industry has ever known. First, that was the time when American rigs...
