    Clutch master cylinder air bubble

Makes sense, easy enough to try, I'll give it a shot. It is working fine, but there's about a 100% chance there's a small air bubble in there. I'll go pump it up and wedge the pedal down right now, come back in an hour and give it some love taps. "If you can't fix it with a hammer, you got...

    Clutch master cylinder air bubble

I recently replaced the clutch master cylinder. After bench bleeding the master and installing it, the clutch disengages just fine, but the pedal is noticeably softer. There is almost certainly an air bubble where the line plugs into the master, I did not bleed the system any further. I was...

Desperate is an understatement! No start issue

this seems like the primary problem. Does it show any codes? If you suspect there is also sa fuel pump issue, I encourage you to get a cheap fuel pressure tester and verify fuel pressure (or lack of fuel pressure). Just throwing it out there, distributor timing doesn't "just move" if the...

What makes me love these Damn YJ's so much?

you're not wrong, my ax5 leaves a little to be desired. The ax15 however, I would put against any earlier Jeep gear box. 231 Transfer case is battle tested and proven, I don't have any PTO accessories (nor do I need any) 30 years, 170K miles and still going, I don't have a problem with the...

What makes me love these Damn YJ's so much?

agree to disagree. Mechanically, nothing on a CJ is superior to a YJ. I could have bought any Jeep I wanted, I chose a YJ on purpose. The YJ is the last of the simple jeeps and the only ones that have electronic ignition and fuel injection. YJ is the last, best, leaf spring jeep.

    Ospho on a Jeep?

The active ingredient in Ospho is Phosphoric Acid. This substance converts and stops rust, creating a black paintable surface. is there any reason to use "Ospho" instead of (much cheaper) generic Phosphoric acid?

In need of lift and tire advice

when I spoke to ucf, they told me the bottom of the pan was 1.5" higher but ½" of that was due to it being smooth and it should only raise the trans 1". But I didn't measure before I installed it, so I have no way to verify. Regardless, it's tough as hell.

In need of lift and tire advice

Guess Im not following. With the 1" motor mount lift, the engine and trans are still at the factory angle, just 1" higher. Drain/fill levels should be unaffected.. Unless I'm missing something?

In need of lift and tire advice

1" BL, 1" motor mount lift, 1.5" extra clearance skid plate. Everything lines up perfectly. Fan is centered in the shroud, gear shifter back to stock height. I really wanted OME suspension and 33s. So it was body lift or sawzall. The gap doesn't bother me. That flimsy stock gas tank skid...

In need of lift and tire advice

Can't tummy tuck without a body lift. I guess you could cut the transmission hump out, but 1" body lift is way easier. Stock skid plates suck. period ;-)

If your transmission skid plate bolts break, then what?

Center punch the broken bolt. THIS IS IMPORTANT! Drill as straight as possible and as centered as possible with (about) an ⅛" drill bit, at least ½" into the busted bolt. Once your pilot hole is drilled, use a propane , or map gas torch to heat the broken stud. Once it's glowing a dull read...

    Playing in the mountains

Sugar snow shenanigans. Top of 4th of July pass, back down to Wolf lodge. Weird snow, kinda powder but slipperier (sugar snow). Good day I winched out once and acted as a recovery point twice. A beautiful day in the mountains with my wife. The dog loved it too. Pulled this dude out a...

Any performance advice for 2.5 4-cylinder?

I like my 4.88 gears. I like them with the 31x10.50s, I like them with the 33x12.50s. Still a turd , but it will hold freeway speeds in 5th and climb most mountain passes in 4th. I almost installed 4.56 gears, ultimately glad I went with 4.88s. My little 4 banger Jeep will do 90mph on 31s or 33s...

Shackles at an angle: are my leaf springs bent?

That's true, but unless you're doing some SERIOUS off roading, it will never matter. How's the ride and handling? Are you in the no track bars camp now?

Shackles at an angle: are my leaf springs bent?

Because it was free to try, I removed my track bars, just see how it drove, I never reinstalled them, I have noticed almost zero difference in handling, but ride quality got noticeably better. I eventually threw them away. Not saying it's the best answer for everyone, but for the very...

To vent, or not to vent?

My take: Slotted and drilled rotors are not good if you actually take your jeep offroad. the holes and slots can get packed with mud, dust, crud and crap. all that stuff will end up embedded in your pads, which will in turn, grind into your rotors and cause poor braking and premature brake...
