Every time a fellow member has a problem with their YJ my YJ seems to do the same thing!

Ha, Not to get too far off topic, but this is my next project. A 1972 Spitfire.

I did the next best thing by smoking an 8Lb pork butt. Life is good.

    Jeep dies

TBI usually have an idle control valve that's a moving plunger or sorts next to the throttle plate in the throat. That plunger moves to control a small amount to air and keep the idle speed constant. Quite often that plunger gets gummed up and starts to stick as the engine heats up. Start...

    Ax 5 shift lever

Did the original break? I snapped off the threaded top trying to get the shift knob off and welded it back on.

Harmonic balancer is not lining up with other bullies after timing chain replacement

Try sliding the pulley on without the Woodruff key in place. Sometimes they get tilted a little or the channel isn't clean and smooth. Thus is not a permanent fix, it will only tell you it's the problem.

    Help Identifying Transmission

I have the 4 cylinder and AX5 and didn't know what to look for. I was told the oil fill port on the ax5 in on the right side and ax15 is on the left.

No spark at the ignition coil

Great news! Thanks for the update. Looks like a good idea to add a kill switch but it's a shame you didn't know about it. I may add one.

95 Jeep Wrangler YJ 2.5 hard to start when warm

They're is a good chance it is flooded because an injector is leaking. The fuel rail is still under pressure when you shut it off and normally the closed injectors will prevent fuel from going into the intake manifold. You can try running a fuel injector cleaner in the tank or remove the...

    Power Steering Upgrade

The power steering pulley on mine was plastic and started making a terrible squealing sound. I bought a new pulley on Amazon and that fixed it.

    Clutch master cylinder air bubble

I'm wondering if you have an internal slave or external? I know it's the master in question. I've changed or rebuilt 6 or so masters/slaves over my years and bled dozens, some worked much better, others the same, and some needed extra bleeding. How is your transmission shifting? If it's...

    Driving 50 mph

As I recall the steering box has an adjustment screw to take out any slop in the gears. BUT, the screw should only be turned a very small amount (1/8 turn) and see what happened. Too much tightening will cause wear and might make it worse. Look in the Factory Service Manual in this forum for...

    1995 YJ Reverse Issues

Another shot in the dark. Unplug the reverse light switch on the transmission to see if it's effecting the fuel pump. Maybe check or watch fuel pressure when you put it in reverse.

    1995 YJ Reverse Issues

It may not be the safest option, what if you jacked up the back of the jeep so the rear wheels are off the ground and tried reverse. Could the rear brakes or drive train be locking up when going backwards? I don't know anything about the automatic trans, just thinking what else is further...

Got scammed and need help to rebuild 89 Wrangler YJ base model

I'm really not into engine swaps and I suggested that only because you were headed that way. The TDI is a light weight engine with almost double the HP, torque, and MPG over my 2.4L. From what I've read it's a very straight forward swap with no hidden tricks. Again, I'm not big on swaps or...

Got scammed and need help to rebuild 89 Wrangler YJ base model

If I had that shell, I would consider installing a VW TDI engine with YJ AX-15 and transfer case.

Front axle breather / vent tube

That's where it is on my '92. From the diff up to the left (driver's) side of the radiator. No clip on mine and it's just wedged near the radiator and power steering reservoir. No clip on mine so I guess I should tie-wrap it to something nearby. Looks like I'm also missing the top cap of...

Did I short out the ECU?

Did you identify what the relay is for which you initially jumped? Also what slots in the socket did you jump. You may have a very weak ground or power connection due to corrosion and the brief short opened the circuit somewhere along the wires. Remove every relay and every fuse, one at a...

    1992 YJ 4.0 overheating

As I recall, when you start and run the engine with the radiator cap off you should see the coolant flowing at a good rate when the t-stat opens. Be careful because it will overflow as it heats up. Low flow and dirty fluid makes me think there's a bunch of rust or sediment that collected in...
