1989 2.5 Renix ECM capacitor replacement

It's all good.. I'll give them a call as I'm not 100% sure someone over here would know what im talking about when linking the transistor to a French built Jeep ECU, even though France is only about 200 miles away haha.

1989 2.5 Renix ECM capacitor replacement

Hi, here you go. I'm looking on the net but nothing comes up matching the 533 or 818 on any transistor. Someone told me they may well be from 1978!

1989 2.5 Renix ECM capacitor replacement

Hi , back on to the ECM repair. I've got diodes on order for the three main culprits above. But I now need to know what replacement I need for the attached transistor. The markings just show 553 above 818 and a Motorola logo. Any clue what I should be replacing it with??

    Fuel Gauge Question

Hi, I recently drained a bit of oil, put some seafoam in and ran the engine for about 5 mins ,as that is all she'll do, and emptied the oil out and put 3.8 litres fresh oil back in with a new filter. Do I need to do it differently? I'll try anything right now haha!

    Fuel Gauge Question

Well I can add my mark to that statement now chaps. When gently pulling the gauge cluster away from the dash board to make sure the gauges were all still wired up OK, there was a puff of smoke behind the cluster, and the clock stopped and two of the bulbs behind the engine temp and fuel gauges...

    Fuel Gauge Question

Well, I threw new plugs in again and syphoned out the pool of gas in the throttle body, made a coffee and.... Progress! It fired up! [ I have to syphon out the gas from the bottom of the throttle body/intake every time otherwise she won't even start to fire up...] Ran like a dog for about 12...

    Compression Question

Do you know what would make the oil presdure gauge show virtually zero when I flick the key to 2nd notch? Before my troubles began, it used to sit juuuuust to the left of middle and then once it fired up it would move to just past middle. Literally put 3.8l of oil in last weekend.

    Fuel Gauge Question

Haha, nice one, I was worried there, yet another 40 dollar part flown in for twice the price! I'll put my faith in what the gas station says I put in. Cheers.

    Compression Question

Hi all. Tested the compression on my 4 cylinder 2.5 and these are the results: Cyl1 - 129 Cyl 2 - 125 Cyl3 - 130 Cyl4- 145 Tried it a few times, they all report the same. Is this good or bad? Still trying, after 8 months and some £2000 later, to even get it to start and run properly. Cranks...

    Fuel Gauge Question

Hi all. OK so I've just emptied my tank to desert dryness. Then refilled with 3 gallons or so. Gauge is hardly moving from the bump stop, as in just about touching the bottom of the red marker. Surely should be showing at least near rhe quarter way mark? Any suggestions?

    Idle controller for 2.5 4-cylinder

Hi, hope all is good. Quick IAC question. When I turn off my Jeep, the IAC clicks loudly and you can feel it shunting the accelerator pedal about 8 times under foot. Is this normal? (The Jeep stopped working within about ten minutes of starting again in April, and has not worked properly...

    Thermostat housing leak

That's coincidental, i was literally searching for anything on a leak from my lower bolt on my thermo housing. Been fine for months, then started a tiny leak out the lower bolt, tried three different gaskets, two new housings and no joy. Maybe it needs thread sealer on the lower bolt of my 2.5l...

    Water Pump Query

Morning Chief, yes I have a dedicated EU export model shipped straight to Germany in Jan 89. It was brought to the UK in 2001 and I got my hands on it 2 years ago. It's left hand drive. Do you think the super hot hoses and stone cold radiator indicates a busted pump. I managed to get her...

    Throttle Position Sensor

Hi Gila, mine is the single point EFI with the TPS bolted on the rear of the throttle body. Yes it has mounting ears which let's you rotate the TPS before you bolt it in place. OK, I understand that idle voltage comment. I'll check it at the weekend. Thanks.

    Throttle Position Sensor

Is there a special way to mount a TPS? I ask as the bolt holes allow for jigging about and I wondered if there is a 'perfect' position you need to adust it to before screwing it in tightly? If so, what do I need to do and why? Thanks!

    Water Pump Query

Hi, I recall then previously owner saying he replaced the waterpump but had to get another one as it was pumping in the wrong direction? I think I may need a new pump as my temp gauge goes from 0 to 260 in about 4 minutes of firing up and the hoses to and from the engine get super hot but the...

    Throttle Position Sensor

I notice that my TPS has what appear to be variable positioning slots to screw the TPS to the throttle body. Is there a special way to screw it on so it works properly with the throttle body? I.e does it need jigging clockwise/ anticlockwise a mm or so or will any position do and just screw it...
