Hi, I recall then previously owner saying he replaced the waterpump but had to get another one as it was pumping in the wrong direction?
I think I may need a new pump as my temp gauge goes from 0 to 260 in about 4 minutes of firing up and the hoses to and from the engine get super hot but the radiator stays stone cold.....
How done tell which is the right direction pump to buy??
Thanks!

Evening! It depends on model year, engine size and belt/pulley configuration (v-belt or serpentine) . I see you are in the UK...do you have an import model YJ?

Morning Chief, yes I have a dedicated EU export model shipped straight to Germany in Jan 89.
It was brought to the UK in 2001 and I got my hands on it 2 years ago.
It's left hand drive.

Do you think the super hot hoses and stone cold radiator indicates a busted pump.

I managed to get her running last week for about 8 minutes and the temp gauge shot from 0 to off the scale in that time just idling. I fiddled with the MAP sensor and she went mad with a super high rev, backfired and cut out haha. Probably killed it!

Copy...it's possible you have a reverse flow water pump installed...those were used on 91 and higher YJ models. While you've got the radiator drained, might be a good time to replace your thermostat and your heater core as well. Not saying that those are malfunctioning, but a little preventive maintenance goes a long way. Can you upload photos of your water pump and belt configuration?
