How much prep for mild frame rust?

I dropped the fuel tank yesterday because I was smelling gas fumes back there. Getting that all fixed up but while the tank is out I want to treat the mild rust before it gets worse. (My skid plate is starting to rust through, so it’s being replaced:) My question is, how clean does the...

Replace Vacuum Unit at the end of injector rail?

Thread resurrection: I also need to replace the vacuum line from the manifold to the fuel regulator. Problem is I can’t find a part number anywhere, and the two ends have different diameters, so generic vacuum line won’t fit well. Is there a specific replacement part available? Or should I...

    Tailgate damage; recommendations please

Update: I did some rudimentary paintless dent repair on the tailgate itself, and it should look ok when covered up by the spare tire. I just installed black Kentrol stainless hinges; my upper stock hinge was quite loose. I adjusted the hinges so the tailgate was centered and the latch was...

    Cup holder and dash bar

I’ve had mine for several months and am very pleased. It is unfinished steel and started to get surface rust in the humid air so I hit it with Rustoleum. I also had my kid 3-D print a plastic bumper for the top opening so metal cups don’t rattle. $33 + $10 shipping for one.

Gas fumes in cab after pulling up or in heavy traffic

I intermittently notice a mild petrol (we call it “gasoline” 🤣) smell from my yj when slowing to a stop or in slow traffic , but I don’t smell it when it’s been parked, even in an enclosed garage. I wonder if an exhaust leak upstream of the catalytic converter could be the cause. How’s your...

    '95 Sahara, 1st YJ

It’s been awhile since my last post; I’ve been driving the Jeep a lot more than working on it since then. It’s really nice to have a fun jeep to get around town, even daily driving. The repairs and mods are fun in their own right, but I’m grateful that it starts every time and turns heads...

    Lift kit advice

My YJ came with 33’s and no body lift. It had 2.5 inches from the leafs, and I think another 1.5” from shackles. It rubbed a little at full lock, which was a result of backspacing. I never took it off road and fully flexed the suspension. My limited experience says 33’s will work with 4”...

    Lift kit advice

A YJ will always ride rough. Some shocks are probably gentler than others, and if you run a lower tire pressure (20-25) you’ll get a little help there too. Just think of it like riding a horse: a jolting open-air experience that requires constant vigilance because it might spook and buck you off!

    Lift kit advice

I started with very little knowledge 3-4 years ago, but if you have time to research and a desire to learn, you can learn and save a ton of money compared to paying a shop, and in many cases you’ll do better work because you care. Leaf springs are pretty simple.

Anyone Downsize Tires For Better Performance?

I can’t speak to an manual steering setup, but intuitively a smaller tire would be easier to steer. Less mass, less surface area and therefore friction at the contact patch. I think almost any tire would do fine on your dirt roads and farm fields. Going from 33” to 30”, you’re losing no more...

Are my wheels going to fall off?

With my 18-y/o jumping in the bed of the Jeep , I was able to localize the noise to the front bushing of the left rear spring. I removed the bolt, lubricated and re-torqued everything and everything is much less creaky now. Thanks!

Anyone Downsize Tires For Better Performance?

I got my YJ last fall and the first thing I did was go from 33” all-terrains with an aggressive tread to 30” AT with a mild tread and couldn’t be happier. My ‘06 LJ is the off-road rig, and I wanted the YJ to be a street-friendly near-stock ride. I immediately noticed more torque and...

Are my wheels going to fall off?

Thanks for the advice. I’m not super bothered by it but will try a few things when i have time. Right now my priority is to lower the “junk” quotient so my wife will be less mortified riding in it.

    91 interior gray vinyl paints?

I’d recommend SEM Color Coat for any vinyl or plastic. A local paint shop can custom mix the Cinder and put it into aerosol cans. Just follow the SEM instructions, and use an Adhesion Promoter. https://www.semproducts.com/product/color-coattm-aerosols#product-details

Are my wheels going to fall off?

I don’t think so. There are a lot of noises but I don’t think any of them are bearings. Exhaust leak, lifters etc yes. At the moment I’m searching for the source of a creak when the rear axle hits small bumps. The springs and bushings are pretty new, so I don’t think that’s it. Can old cracked...
