I got the Big 7 from jeepcables installed this weekend. Not to difficult especially with some help from @Plastic Fury Before:

    No crank, no lights

That’s what I ended up doing after watching a couple more videos. For some reason I thought I would have to remove the old cable out of the loom, but I guess it just stays put. The fit on the double PDC posts was awkward; I couldn’t arrange it so the little plastic shield would fit over it...

Did you install their external fuse, and remove the two 50A fuses from the PDC? The instructions on that seem ambiguous. Did you install the wires to the alternator? Seems like a fair bit of work to open the factory loom and wire bundles to the alternator.

I guess it’s just from getting bent up in the past. I’ve hammered and vise-gripped it into a nearly square shape, put a single fender washer on each of the upper studs and two on the lower stud, and the 1.22” snubbers fit fairly well now. I’m adding 3/16” rubber sheet to three of the snubbers...

I also had a no-start/no-power this weekend and found the positive battery terminal clamp was loose. The nut is corroded and chewed up, plus it looks like the clamp itself has a crack. New ‘Big 7’ from jeepcables was ordered today.

I decided to cut and bend and reweld the problem corner of the tire carrier to try and get it closer to square. I also noticed that the lower part of the wheel contacts the lower arms of the tire carrier before the mounting surface sits flush. It doesn’t seem like it should be like that...

Who makes the best soft top for my ‘93 YJ?

TJs have a completely different soft top frame design. Not compatible with a YJ frame at all. Check out: https://www.bestop.com/products/oe-style-replacement-bow-frame-hardware-kit/?vid=2329&sku=5500201 And the TJ forum: https://wranglertjforum.com

Did you go with the 2G or 4G?

    No crank, no lights

I was looking at that exact product. It was top of the search results, so probably a popular choice. Seems like a good idea. Did you put dielectric grease on the ground points to prevent corrosion?

    No crank, no lights

Problem solved: The positive battery terminal cable was loose after all. Looking at replacement cables now.

    No crank, no lights

The battery is old but always cranks strong. The terminals are clean and tight. I thought of the ignition switch, but then I should still have headlights. I looked at the PDC and the fuses look ok. What causes a total electrical failure?

    No crank, no lights

So this morning the Jeep started right up like normal, and after my first stop it wouldn’t start. The dash lights would illuminate intermittently but were mostly dark. When I turned the key I heard a click like a relay ir a spasm from the starter once or twice but mostly did nothing. No...

If the tailgate is creasing at the lower edge of the carrier it sounds like like that spot is a fulcrum and a torque is being applied above. Maybe the tire is pressing into the upper snubbers disproportionately?

I bought a set of 4 1.22” bumpers from a reseller. They are pretty close to the right width and I plan to just shim them out with ~3/16” rubber fender washers or rubber mat. I have about decided to cut and reweld the damaged part of the carrier to get it to sit more squarely with the gate. I...

For what it’s worth, I have ~7mm clearance where yours are hitting. (Of course I have different springs.). Also it’s about 73mm from the center bolt of the plate to the center of the welded link mounting post. Maybe those Crown plates welded the mount 3-4mm too for rearward?

    Exhaust geometry problems

Thanks for the extra info. I looked a couple places and that midpipe is around $390 and out of stock. But I may go that route eventually so I don’t have to keep messing with rusting broken parts every year or two. Did you remove the skid plate for better access?

    Exhaust geometry problems

That looks great! I think I could pull off something like that. Looks like you used better clamps than I did. Also, is the mid pipe hanger curved to go into the rubber slot in the skid mount? Mine is flat stock and obviously didn’t fit well. My other confusion is how to test fit everything...

    Exhaust geometry problems

i think part if the problem is low quality materials; that hanger to the transmission mount apparently couldn’t hold the weight so now everything is sagging. I’ll have to do some research and make a plan. It would be nice to get good quality materials and workmanship that will last a long time...

    Exhaust geometry problems

Shortly after i acquired the YJ, I discovered a cracked exhaust manifold and decided to replace the whole exhaust. I had never done anything like this; I went ahead and bought a complete kit from RockAuto (cheapest Walker option) and bolted it all together. I was moderately pleased with myself...
