Seems to be the way with any 2.5 mod, exhaust, intake, chips, etc. best thing is to regear if them tires is to big. . Everyone says swap in a LS or 4.0 but thats not gonna happen for most of us.

I had a 91 2,5 and read up on the mod. The general consensus was its not the effort.

I cant recall even after owning 5 XJ's, but I dont think they ever came with a D44 in front, the rear yes. The front 30 isnt bad really for what it sounds like what your doing. The T case is decent as well, but again how hard are you gonna be on it? Your talking plenty of mods here. Kinda sounds...

Just thought of another one which drove me nuts on my 91. Knock every time it moved a bit, went up a driveway or anything that caused slight articulation. Weeks of diagnosis I finally found the hood to be the culprit. IIRC it was just slop in the pass side hinge or the metal poping when slight...

Take a look at he sway bar end links. The end with a ball joint kind of deal may be wasted. My 99 knocked like crazy every bump I hit.

When you fire up your jeep the alternator is working double time to recharge your battery. Thats possibly the squeal you hear. If it never goes away then like the guys said start checking for bad parts like the PS pump, water pump etc. The belt should be flexible at a point between pulleys, say...

Those bastages build condos in my garage, the car door jambs, my tool boxes..you name it. Then comes fall and its flying stink bugs and lady bugs everywhere. I think Id go insect insane if I lived in the jungle.

Wiring behind the dash in good cond? LOL..its a jeep. It was iffy when it rolled off the assembly line. Cluster grounds, cheap gauges, dirty corroded and loose connections all will have their way. Good luck, looks like a good start.

I'll bet you have bad grounds/dirty connections thus internally overheating an old headlight switch. This causes the headlight switches internal breaker to trip. This has happened on both my 91 YJ, 99 TJ.

New to you? Old to you and fine before? Lube check? You check the linkage? Body lift? molested and "made better" by PO?

Oh yeah, add fords V10 to the list of bad sounding with different muffs. Got one of them too. :rolleyes:

The 00 or 01 Xterra I had was a rolling coolant leak. Just sayin. No mucho beans, poo mpg but it was fun. Oddly enough Id buy another though. If you get a stick I'll bet withing a week you'll take a sledge hammer to the wheel well by the clutch pedal and make it...........better we'll say.

IMO any 6 banger sounds crappy with anything but a stock muff. Droning sucks and will tire you out eventually. Don't even think of removing the cat or gutting it as its a complete waste of time and effort and will yeild 0 on HP gains. That being said one mans idea of good might be anothers...

There was a few posts RE this. IIRC guys removed the quick and connected the two lines together. I never had any issues on my 91 or 95 but who knows.
