The original on that 4.2 is a computer controlled POS disaster. My 89 originally came with one. They didn’t work well when new. Mine has been replaced with a Weber that is a copy of what came on the CJ 258/ 4.2.

I see, that would probably be the reason.
The 80's was a rough decade, lots of great vehicles ruined by a bunch of dumb politicians and engineers.
