Sloppy shift lever in a Peugeot 5-speed

The shift lever in my BA10 is very loose. Has anyone had this problem and fixed it? I'm not ready to buy an ax15. The money just isn't there yet.

You're definitely not alone with a loose shift lever in the BA10! A common issue with these gearboxes is worn bushings or a loose linkage. Here's a few things to consider:
  • Linkage adjustment: Sometimes, the shift linkage can get out of whack. Double-check the adjustments and tighten any loose bolts.
  • Bushings: Inspect the shift lever bushings—these can wear out over time and lead to sloppiness. Replacement bushings are usually pretty affordable and can make a significant difference.
  • Shifter plate: If your shifter plate is worn, it can also contribute to a loose feel. You can try reinforcing it or replacing it.
  • Oil level: Make sure your transmission is at the correct oil level. Low fluid can lead to poor shifting performance.
By addressing these issues, you might be able to tighten things up without needing to invest in a new transmission. Good luck with it, and keep us posted on your progress!

I'll go into it if I ever get a break in the rain. Buying another transmission is too far down the road.
Will my NP207 bolt onto an AX5?

The problem is obvious. Now to fix it.
I found a lower shift lever in excellent shape on ebay and I still have the option of welding and milling the slot on this one.
The pin in the shift housing is another issue. An exhaustive search turned up nothing. I'm considering sacrificing a screwdriver and turning a new one in the lathe.
I'm just not ready to replace the transmission/transfer case yet.
More to come.
