Replacing horn contact (issue reinstalling causing constant contact)

First time poster after lurking for a month or so. Last month, I bought a 92 JY and am in the process of getting it ready for inspection to become street legal.

When I bought it, the horn was not working unless a ton of pressure was put on the steering wheel. I bought a Crown horn repair and contact kit as the plastic post on the contact was broken. While removing the bushing, receiver, spring plate, etc., I was able to make certain the horn was functional when contact was made. I removed the steering wheel, clip, and plate in order to take out the old plastic contact and installed the new one.

Here is where I encounter my problem. When pressing inward on the plate to install the clip over the spline, there is contact somewhere and the horn goes off (remains on). Not sure what I am missing from the old to the new contact but I'm not able to seat the plate as much as it was before I removed everything. I've pulled out the steering shaft as much as possible but still having an issue. I've done a side by side comparison and the old vs new contact don't seem off much but maybe it is enough to creat an issue?.

Anyone ever encounter the same problem at this point in the horn repair process? Continuing to troubleshoot but thought I'd check in here.

Posting here might seem as if I'm talking to myself but sometimes that helps! Old plastic contact seems is able to "seat in" better than the new one. Double checked and new piece is said to be a replacement for my year model YJ but we all know how that does sometimes with aftermarket parts. Dang.

Might be a record here for starting a thread and responding to myself without another participant. Did I get the wrong part here? Might be for a tilt column?

I have not attempted to replace my horn or any components in that area, but looking at Quadratec's website, they list different part numbers for the turn signal cam kit, depending on tilt (Crown part # 4487816K) and non-tilt (Crown part # 4487711K). Unfortunately, the pictures are exactly the same, so I was not able to see any differences. I didn't see the part # of the kit you ordered in your post, but I recommend double-checking that you ordered the correct one for your column and report back.

I was able to make the necessary repair and the horn works as it should.

I sourced a turn signal cam (canceling cam per the diagram below) similar to the oem part and metal contact pin that was shorter and similar in length to the oem pin. The metal pin in the Crown Auto kit was too long. Also, in the third pic in my original post, you can see the plastic tube that holds the spring and metal contact pin was positioned in the middle of the curved opening on the housing plate. I moved it as far up/right as possible which allowed avoidance of the three metal tabs on top of the cam.
