Looking for a correct (size and brand) winch for a '95 YJ. Our jeeps are not very big so I don't want one that is overkill.

I don’t think that you can get one that’s overkill, but for the money I like the 10&12 thousand pound quadratech winches. Much cheaper than Warn or Ramsey and they do sell replacement parts for them. If you have the money and feel that it will get used a lot I would go with a Warn. Whatever brand, I personally would not go below an 8000 lb.

As a general rule a winch should be rated at a minimum of 1.5 times the weight of your vehicle. I have the Quadratec 9500i, its about 4 years old and was on the Jeep when I bought it. Another good thing to keep in mind is how much cable it can hold, the more the better for obvious reasons.
