Coil Spring Conversion Question

New member to the forum. I recently purchased a 1988 Resto Mod YJ. The former owner completed a conversion to coil springs that I am would like to update. The conversion was done using ProComp springs and shocks - giving a 4 inch lift. I would like to lower the lift height to 2 inches. I have seen some threads about the conversion with the ProComp kit mentioned but have not found anything discussing options for changing the kit. Am I able to complete the update using a TJ shock and spring lift kit? Thanks in advance for any advice

Yes, you can use a TJ shock and spring lift kit to achieve that. The coil spring conversion does share some compatibility with the TJ components, but there are a few things to keep in mind:
  • Spring Rates: Ensure that the spring rates of the TJ springs match your desired ride quality. Typically, lowering to a 2-inch lift with softer springs can provide a more comfortable ride.
  • Shock Placement: Check the shock mounting points on your YJ. While the shocks may fit, you want to make sure the length will be appropriate for a 2-inch setup. You might need to get shorter shocks than those included in your current ProComp kit.
  • Alignment Issues: After the lift modification, you should check the alignment and adjust as needed. Changing the height might affect the caster and camber angles.
  • Other Components: Since you’re dropping the lift height, watch for any clearance issues with your current tire size. You may need to adjust or change other components like brake lines or sway bar links depending on how the suspension settles.

Thanks for the great info. Going to smaller tires was part of the plan. It currently has 33 Super Swampers that I want to replace with 31s that are more street friendly. Will make sure to check the other aspects you note. Much appreciated. Will post an update after work completed
