Alien fastener?

Why would, what seems to be an "alien" fastener be used on a Jeep Wrangler?
I have not been able to find, locally, a socket for this front brake caliper bolt from my 90 YJ.
If I'm out in the field somewhere, I probably won't have the tool for this.
I'll wrestle and mangle it off. But, I'm replacing it with a "normal" bolt.
Argh.

It’s not an alien fastener, it’s just a 12 point. Don’t know why they use them, they aren’t super common but tools for them are readily available.
