Do all 1995 YJ's have a 4wd indicator light or was that an option? When I shift my transfer case into 4wd there is no light in the first of the 5-gauge dash panel. I haven't had the jeep long enough to know if the 4wd even works.

They all have the 4WD light. The 4WD light in stock form does not turn on until the CAD fork in the front axle housing moves over and engages the right side axle shaft. So you likely have a problem pertaining to that system.

The switch that is located on top of the CAD on the front axle could be bad. That is an easy check though as you only have to remove the switch and the push the ball in with your finger and see if the dash indicator lights up. That is a relatively easy thing to check first before digging deeper. The issue I had was my CAD wasn't engaging due to a worn out vacuum switch located on the transfer case. Once I figured that out, it operated as it should and the light comes on when the axle is engaged.

On my 93 the left most guage of four on the panel lights yellow. It triggers off a sensor in the front axel. Mine is not working because the sensor on the axel is not closing the circuit. Try unplugging the connector. One terminal should have +12v. If it does jump the two together and the light should illuminate. This is how I diagnosed why mine is not working. You will need ignition on. It will not matter if it’s in 2 or 4 WD.

Just to clarify a bit, switch on the front axle operates a ground circuit. The bulb in the cluster always receives a 12V ignition power source, and the axle switch grounds the bulb when in 4WD.

But yes, jumping the terminals will tell if there is a problem with the switch.

Hey guys. I guess I got lucky. I just drove back and fourth in my driveway a bit and it worked. Indicator light came on and I felt a bit of a jerk driving forward in 1st which must have been when the CAD connected. Cycled through 2H 4H and 4L a few times. Shifting the transfer case feels a bit harder than it probably should feel but I'm not sure. It all seems to work though.
