    I am laughing at the Rube comment, but the vent open is the one on the passenger side...your guess right. Seeing the picture above made me think about replacing that switch on the left of that mini panel.

    I took this picture just now on my 95 2.5l, it is the gray wire in the right side leading into that cluster. It is the base of the steering column. Hope that helps.
