We usually recommend the 3899621 bellhousing for that conversion. We offer them new and you should be able to find them pretty easily as they are one of the most common. You can also look into these ones, 6263756, 460486.

Sounds like you have gotten a lot of information about the performance differences so I won't add to that. As far as the actual conversion, take a look at your bell housing. You'll need to see if you have the mounting provisions for the crank position sensor at about the 10 o'clock positions...
