    If they removed the spiders and installed a barrel, then yes easy, just swap them back around, however if the welded the spiders, hopefully they kept all the welding it the carrier in such a way that you can still remove the c-clips

    Transfer case leak

    The new process transfer cases are notorious for having the internal pump rub holes in the rear case also. the one little steel clip that is supposed to stop this often fails and breaks off. There’s an after market steel shim that you can install that will stop it, if this is the case.

    Definitely ATF, I think the gear lube is a temp fix if the pump rubs a hole in the rear case.

    Haven’t experienced this with the Jeep but my 03 Chevy 2500 has the NP261 t-case ( just a heavier duty version of the 231)and was doing the same, there is one little set of synchronizers in it that allow the shift on the fly, and when I replaced the chain, I also replaced the sync. and it went away

    My 91 with 2.5L did similar , and mine was the fuel pump.
