Trubleshooting a Bad Throw Out Bearing

YJ with a 4 banger. Shifting from first to second the Jeep starts to shutter, second to third same thing. And you can hear the tick, tick, tick of the throwout bearing hitting the pressure fingers on the pressure plate. My question. is transmission or throwout bearing? Or both?

    Goofy Question about Axles

When we happen into a decent weekend I'll go pick-n-pull diving. If i'm lucky to score a D44 I'll let the forum know and provide pictures. Too bad you're in TN, I'd invite you along for the adventure. Until then, I'll continue to research this and report findings. Anyone with experience or...

    Goofy Question about Axles

Read a little bit about the XJ D44 and they say they are a direct bolt-in! IDK! Guess if I can find a donor, we'll find out.

    Goofy Question about Axles

Yes! Yes! Yikes...maybe! Chances are for Dana 44's, I would need to find and source salvage parts. I'd love to grab a pair from a big 4x4 site and just bolt them in. But that's only in the day dream budget, not the reality budget. So the bigger question is a donor vehicle. I know that certain...

    Goofy Question about Axles

Okay, next question. Best place to source a set of Dana 44's? Bone yard? Next door neighbor's Wrangler? .....?

    Goofy Question about Axles

Sitting here day dreaming about the best axle swap for a YJ (hypothetical). Let's set this up: 93 YJ more street that trail.... but you just never know. LS 5.3 = ~ 400hp 4L60e NP231 front/rear axles?

Any performance advice for 2.5 4-cylinder?

Jeep is in North Carolina east coast, not smog checks (yet). Over 30 years old and qualifies for historic license plate, no more state inspection. Pretty perky for a 4 cyl even with 33's. All I really want is to be able to sustain speed on the highway. Don't really do much dirt, maybe some sand...

    Advice on Leveling a YJ

Here's a few pictures of current suspension.

    Advice on Leveling a YJ

Good blind guess! Bought it this way. Stock springs on roughly 6" shackles. I'll see if I can get some pictures to post.

    Advice on Leveling a YJ

My thought too. The springs are stock, I could replace the front with 2" lift springs.

Any performance advice for 2.5 4-cylinder?

So, to be open kimono, I have two 93 YJ's. The black one I'm trying to keep the stock drive train so my grand babies can learn how to drive a stick and be spunky enough to hang at highway speeds. I have a red YJ (not pictured) that is the project. I have a 4.0 and a SBC 350 with a TH350 setting...

    Advice on Leveling a YJ

1993 YJ leveling advice. What is the best way to level my YJ? It sits maybe 2" lower in the front. It's more for the looks of the YJ rather then tire clearance. Thanks.

Any performance advice for 2.5 4-cylinder?

Well, that was interesting. Thanks. So, I can do 4.56 gears and expect 2762 RPM at 70... That's just a little spooky though. Not the RPM, but just thinking about going 70 mph in my YJ! =0

Any performance advice for 2.5 4-cylinder?

I've read that 4.56 or 4.88 is a decent choice for gearing the YJ. Currently running 33's and it gets along, just not in overdrive (5th). Filled it with mid grade fuel the other day and it got a little peppy! Woo Hoo! Might go down the ring and pinion gear rabbit hole this spring.

Any performance advice for 2.5 4-cylinder?

Kinda what I figured. Gearing seems to be the best way forward. I supposed that there are little things one can do to improve the little 2.5. Not much in the line of engine performance or aftermarket parts. I read that even the cold air intake is rather unless since the factory air cleaner is...

Any performance advice for 2.5 4-cylinder?

Just curious if anyone has any performance tips for the 2.5? I've read a little on. the subject and there really isn't much promising information out there. Not really interested in a turbo. There's a guy on you tube that installed a M90 supercharger on a 2.5. Ultimately there has to be an...

    93 YJ Engine Swap

I hear you! Jeep is tagged and insured, on the road and cruising. Besides, I've get the ultimatum from my Grand Daughter to always have the Jeep available to pick her up! So, no worries. Might be a good excuse to find one of those buckets of bolts as a project.

    Lift kit advice

No, you're right, nothing wrong with it. I'm just not a fan of the body lift look. But it's not completely off the table either.

    93 YJ Engine Swap

Shhhhh! We're hunting Wabbits! Hahahaha! Yea, thought about that. To do it correctly I'm looking at about $5K. But the benefits over the SBC or even the I6 are tremendous. Not something I'm gone to rush into, planning and part collection are the first steps.

    93 YJ Engine Swap

Considering swapping out the 4 banger for something a little larger. I've got a 98 HO 4.0L out of a Cherokee and I've got a 350 SBC in the garage. Reading up on this stuff neither one is simple or cheap. Also considered swapping in a LS motor, but again an expensive venture. Any successful...
