    Fuel pump plugs

Eh...if your connect job is good and water tight with heat shrink butt splices and shrink tube over that why change it? Wait till you need to pull the pump again if ever.

    Fuel pump plugs

One possible option is to hit up a marine shop or google "weather pack" connectors. If your OEM ones are already cut off or damaged you can re do them with these.

    Fuel mileage

The Islander either had a 2.5 or 4.0 eh? You'll never get 20 mpg like those two engines from a 258 IMO. Does it seem rich? what gears?,what tire size?

    Fuel mileage

One of my CJ's had a Howell conversion, cant say it got great MPG. The last CJ I owned was a "Jamboree Edition" 258, with a 3 speed auto and 2.73 gears. 55MPH is 2nd no problem, add bigger tires, 33's perhaps and your screwed power and MPG wise.

    What are modest off-road mods?

I S'canned the sway bars and trac bars on my 91and drove it regularly on 60 mile highway runs with no issues. A Small lift, decent shocks, a winch were all I needed. Remember the old times ran the Rubicon in stock CJ's. Its all about finesse and skill not bling.

1989 4.2: What could be causing air to clog my fuel line?

    Kinda sounds like vapor lock.

    AX5 External Slave

IIRC you cannot swap a AX15 to a 4 banger. Easiest way is to Google for pics to id which trans you have.

    Water thru exhaust pipe

If you don't drive it enough to heat up really good water vapor will accumulate in the muffler and exhaust pipe. Humidity can also add to the vapor issue. I assume you not losing coolant or having over heating issues??

I was shocked... shocked I tell you!

The 99 F250 4x4 i bought had new Monomax'es on it. As a former KYB Gas adjust fan I couldn't believe how these things were, yes I took them off and sold them. Might as well use 2x4's for shocks.

    Engine Swap

Likely cost you far to much but I wonder if you could use a Howell FI kit. It eliminates all the smog crap and is pretty basic with common FI parts pretty much.

    Engine Swap

IIRC you have a 90 which has the only year of the TBI injection. Mine was a 91 which has the later style injection which was kept for the later production jeeps. When I replaced the failing dist in my 91 I screwed up and had it one tooth off. It ran, started and drove until I went to get gas...

    Engine Swap

Surely suck to invest in a donor jeep only to find the same problems as its not internal to the engine. Considering all the issues you've had It just dont seem like an internal engine issue. Shoot.....if the cam/ignition timing is correct, you have compression, fuel and spark it will fire. All...

    Clutch master cylinder air bubble

I dont think thats gonna get it. There is a bleeder on the slave and personally thats where Id be hooking the M Vac and flushing the system as well as getting the air out. Odd as this might sound on some of the bikes/atv's Ive had it was near impossible to get the air out of the system. I read a...

What is my old YJ worth?

Prices are much dictated by location IMO. No top, bad paint...$5500 maybe. Id be looking on FB mkt place and C/L for comps and go from there.

    Driving 50 mph

Didnt the alignment shop have any input on worn parts? These days it seems alignments, tire balancing and a few other basic functions of a competent shop have gone bye bye.

    Driving 50 mph

You've heard the obvious, its no sports car. Crappy worn tires can track terribly, bad tie rod ends, bad alignment like a axle rotated wrong from a funky lift etc. You mention play in the steering?? that from a worn box or? and as far as a steering stabilizer...if its wandering the stabilizer...
