Sounds pretty normal to me for a yj. See if the exhaust shield is secure. Other than that run 1 quart of oil stabilizer from Lucas to quiet down the ticking. Motor molasses is great stuff
We ended up leaving one day early due to the garnet fire that is burning one ridge away from base camp. I am originally from Canada and really enjoyed how nice the lake was up there…must have been even nicer before the fires.
This weekend me and my brother took my YJ on a poker run with Cal4wheel in the high sierra of California. 19 miles off-road to an elevation over 7800 feet with the 2.5 engine. Here are some pics of the bald mountain run above Shaver Lake.
Have you changed the fuel filter? Carefully blown air through the fuel lines?
For the idle….have you cleaned the throttle body? Ran any seafoam through it as well?
Once you’re up and running, you definitely should check out Cal4wheel events. I joined earlier this year and it is the most fun I’ve had in my life.

Epic! Best of luck on your sale. Hopefully you can get top dollar. Next time I need to smog my yj I plan on listing it high as the starting point and see what the market dictates.
Clean and tighten all grounds? Ever replace the battery cables?
