Exactly, they are very well thought out when compared to the likes of other brands. Not to mention, they weigh almost nothing.

    Trans/Oil coolers

The stock/factory Jeep radiator has proven it’s reliability through the years as well as the stock mechanical fan. I would strongly suggest keeping the stock radiator and fan and adding a derale auxillary radiator and fan for the trans(Only needed for autos not manuals) and oil cooler. Earls...

Carpet Colour (color) for my '88 YJ

While I’m not sure which color carpet came stock in that body color/top combo, I would suggest black and get the ACC carpet if you can get it shipped at a reasonable price. Everyone swears by the ACC carpet over on the TJ forum, which RockAuto sells.

    California Jeep shops in SoCal

I would reach out to Howell and ask them to point you to an authorized dealer or authorized service provider/installer. Someone familar with Howell and their products are going to hook you up and get your YJ running as it should.

Why is there so much hate against YJ square headlight Jeeps?

That’s what Ive read as well. Part of it was the government forcing their hand. The CJ had a problem with stability, the YJ addressed the issues and made a bold statement by eliminating the round headlights.

Do you know how to use a test lamp? There may be some electrical issue. Have you visually inspected the wiring to the turn signal socksets?

    2.5" lift recommendations

The shocks play the biggest role in ride quality. If you want the absolute best leaf springs, you’ll have your Jeep weighed and then source a leaf builder and let them know how much lift you want.

How do I determine the amount of lift that was done to this YJ?

Based off the eye test, it appears is if you have factory springs on it with “lift shackles.” Which I would get rid of. Your lift is the result of the longer shackles for sure and you may have some aftermarket springs on it. The tires and wheels look like JK take offs. You could re gain some...

How do I determine the amount of lift that was done to this YJ?

Through the transfercase, not the transmission.
