Any recommendations on what motor I should swap in?

Whats wrong with the idea if a complete tear down and rebuild of what you already have? Rebuilding the factory engine would be the first path I would consider if I were you. Second, an LS swap. Depending on your skill level it can be pretty simple when it comes to engine swapping.

How to determine if rear main seal is leaking on 4.2L

Have you looked above the rear main, up towards the rear side of the valve cover. The valve cover is prone to leaking. I’d check that area next.

What tires would you recommend for my YJ?

What sized tires are currently on it? Your Jeep could beneift from some factory leaf spring shackles, time to get rid of those aftermarket long shackles. Crown automotive offers factory replacments or ebay for genuine factory ones.

A YJ with an LS on Coilovers & Spidertrax Axles

A few parts to stretch the rear arrived today from Motobilt. A rear weld on bumper with recovery points and leaf spring shackle hangers, frame tie ins, and rear shackles. I waited until their black Friday sale which shaved a little over $60 off of it. The motobilt stretch “kit” will be welded...

Thank you. It’s going to take a lot of work to get it looking, “amazing.”

A YJ with an LS on Coilovers & Spidertrax Axles

Ordered some really cool dome light mounts for the future cage build. 1.75 inch mounts and covers 80% of the tube. The 6061 aluminum mount utilizes a hidden pinch bolt and accomodates two KC Cyclone LED’s.

Looking forward to the weekend. Need to deep clean the engine bay and continue cutting all the old brackets off the frame.

    Cracked shackle bracket

well...it looks terrible, being honest. Do you have any nice Jeep shops in your area? It looks as though the frame has been repaired before. I am not sure why the weld splatter is so bad or why random plates are welded in random areas of the frame.

    Cracked shackle bracket

Seems like something else is going on with the frame. Can we get another shot of the area in front of the leaf spring mount? Looks like there is weld splatter there. Care to share?

    Cracked shackle bracket

If it can be aligned properly, I see no reason as to why a weld wouldnt work. Why did it crack is the real question.

Jeep TJ center caps,”should,” fit. they are still sold by Jeep/Mopar and the last place I saw them was on Quadratec.com

YJ Axles, should I replace them?

If you want aftermarket axles, Dynatrac is the only aftermarket axle manufacture that offers a spring under front Dana 44. Going this route would be expensive if you are on a limited budget. However, if you were to pull the trigger on a Dynatrac "Dana" 44 front and/or rear and you would have...

YJ Axles, should I replace them?

The TJ Dana 30 can be modified with chromoly axles to support up to 35 inch tires. The factory YJ Dana 30 front axle is high pinion, so its perfect for a front end. The unit bearings from the factory are nice and easy to replace in a pinch. The only, "downfall," to the YJ Dana 30 is the front...

    Yj upgrade to vortec

Like mentioned, it really depends on the way you drive it and where you intend on taking it. I would highly advise against the stock axles. From an engineering aspect, they are not designed to handle or withstand the power and tq from the V8 power plant, so an upgrade would be a no brainer IMO.
