New here, and new to Jeep

Well, you have one of the most desired motors. As far as maintenance, youtube has plenty of how-to videos that show the most common issues these things have. If you have a few tools, you can easily work on this motor yourself by using those videos as a guide. Many use an TJ, XJ, YJ, or ZJ stock...

1994 Hunter Green SE “Back to Stock” Thread

I've been contemplating a full new exhaust and have seen that the Borla is a step up from stock in sound, but Magnaflow was quite a bit louder. I'd like something that lets the 4.0 sing a bit more at idle/part throttle, but isn't much louder over stock at cruise speed for comfort and tunes. My...

New YJ owner - basic maintenance question

Woohoo! Another Islander! I (now) run 15x8 Gambler wheels and did a 1" body mount lift (custom 1" taller body mount-so 1 piece vs stacking) and run 30x9.50s with brand new stock height springs. Also, like you are thinking, I ditched the carpet and used a gray Durabak roll on liner for the inside...

1994 Hunter Green SE “Back to Stock” Thread

Dang man. I hate when something stupid causes a setback like that. Yeah, halfway through mine, shortly after I had all the suspension work done, I took it on a short, midnight drive up and down my road. Didn't have tags yet, but just needed that motivation boost of seeing the light at the end of...

    Help with windshield frame hinges

I had a similar issue on a repop half door I purchased. The door sat WAY too far forward. Like, rubbing the tub at the hinges forward, even with the hinges moved rearward to the max on the tub side. I had to really work at elongating the holes and tweaking things to get it to shift rearward...

    Noid light help

You need to make sure it's dark when you test as they flash pretty quickly. Close the doors in your shop and turn off the lights. Or if outside, wait for dark. But yes, you need it to flash. It's gonna look more like a bright flicker. They really aren't bright at all.

You won't have an issue with 1310s. My Wag only has 1310s throughout. The LS hasn't broken anything.

New member, 92 YJ Islander RHD (and a couple pics of the other stuff)

I had test driven a few different YJs when searching for my next purchase. The first one was at the top of my budget. I think about 112k miles, 4.2 with a 2 1/2" lift. It looked good from a distance, but up close looked like Stevie Wonder had painted it. I test drove it, noticed many electrical...

Photo of stock rear driveshaft and angle (stock height)

Yep, when I first put it in, I was like "Holy $#1t, that's a steep angle!" But, it runs fine all the way up to 65-70, which is faster than I want to drive it due to comfort and sound levels. I bought it to enjoy daily and cruise around town. All the driving I need to do is below 60mph, so lower...

Photo of stock rear driveshaft and angle (stock height)

There's one on my build thread. Went back to fresh, stock height springs. Like yours, they sit flat with the Jeep weight on them. My driveshaft angle is surprisingly steep imo, but this is my first YJ so no other reference. FWIW, I don't have any vibrations since I ditched the 2" springs that...

    Weatherstripping

This^^^ My new soft top came with one in the kit. Just has a pinch edge that makes for an easy install right where the tailgate shuts against the tailgate bar. Here it is. Skip to 10:10 in the video showing the install.

In need of lift and tire advice

Guys. It's been over a year since the OP last posted. Pretty sure they: 1-Figured it out and are enjoying it 2-kept it as is due to low funds 3-lost interest and sold it ;)

Swapping XJ 4.0 with aw4 into 89 YJ.

Pretty sure you're gonna need a 91-up cluster to work with the electronic speedo and 4.0 sensors. A quick google of '4.0 AW4 into YJ' will net you quite a few threads of those who have done it with some nuggets of info. There are a couple who have swapped the entire XJ drivetain into earlier YJs...

    95 4.0 with 42re flexplate

Yes. The nomenclature is used interchangeably. a999 is the tf999 is the 32RH. Likewise, the a904 is the tf904 is the 30RH. The only differences in any torqueflight transmission is the bolt pattern for the different engines it mated to. Chrysler, AMC, and International used differing bolt...

    Help with windshield frame hinges

The speaker magnets were pains for me as well. I unbolted my dash and shifted it around during the procedure since i was restoring the Jeep as well. And agree with using Kroil. The can I have is probably 15 years old. A little goes a long way, especially when using a bit of heat at the time of...

    95 4.0 with 42re flexplate

Same with the 727 and 518s. Became the 36RH and 46RH. Just a name change to a code system. Number of forward gears/Strength/Layout/Shift Control 999=3 forward gears, strength of 2 (made for lower power motors), (R)ear wheel drive layout, (H)ydraulic controlled.

    95 4.0 with 42re flexplate

Found this on the Jeepforum concerning a 32RH(999) to AW4 swap: "AW4 flex plate ( yes it is different than the 32RH flex-plate. the hold down bolts and spacer is reusable from the 32RH flex-plate.)" Looks like you may need the proper flex plate for the transmission if you keep the 32RH.

    95 4.0 with 42re flexplate

The transmission should bolt up no issues. Not sure about the flex plate to torque converter. My next question is this: If you have the complete XJ vehicle, why not use the 4.0 and AW4 as is? EFI is so much nicer as far as startup and go in colder weather. If everything works, then just swap...

    95 4.0 with 42re flexplate

Okay. Something's off. A Cherokee as in XJ? Those only had AW4 autos behind the 4.0. A GRAND Cherokee (ZJ) came with the 42RE

    WTB: Factory YJ wheels

The Illuminati, ran by the Lizard people.... Not joking, though. The moment I saved a listing with an image showing the Gamblers that was really far away in case nothing popped up closer, they started showing after a couple of days. Old ads with the same wording I had already been...
