Wide open throttle switch

What is the purpose for the wide open throttle switch on the 1990 jeep wrangler yj??
Is it for my air conditioning or helps with my idle control???

Thanks. I just read up on it a lil bit.
It says their primarily used to switch the fuel to air mix up so the engine will run better and improve fuel economy at higher speeds.
Sounds like it's mostly for travel at highway speeds.
I control it by finding the sweet spot on the accelerator pedal.
I don't know if anyone has thought about this yet but I think I'm going to use a nitrous oxide pedal switch in it's place. Since it's almost impossible to find one
